If current insurance companies must drop all pre-existing condition clauses and agree to have no out-of-pocket limit then don’t you think they will be raising our premiums? Are they supposed to just eat the cost of whatever the difference is? They already only make a 3% profit, so even if they offer their services for free they will be loosing money. So what does this mean? It means that insurance companies will be firing employees left and right and looking for a way to not pay on claims. Even before the bill they were bad about paying claims right away. Now if you get injured the insurance company will be looking for any other source to reclaim expenditures. Workmans comp, liability, personal, business they will be after any and all of these other insurance providers. Then after a few years of being billions of dollars in the hole, they will be out of business, or they will need a bailout. Can you see where I’m going with this? Then the Government will own the insurance companies and you can say HELLO to SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM!!
Blue Cross and Blue Shield? Nope…Obama Cross and Obama Shield!
Mutual of Omaha? Nope…Mutual of Obama!
UnitedHealth Group? Nope…United States Government Health Group!
Disclaimer for Democrats: It is not my intention to incite fear and/or anger. This is simply my thoughts as to what COULD happen because of this new health care bill.

I have been thinking about the same thing
Leopard1996 (Diary) Friday, April 2nd at 8:18AM EST (link)I even wrote a diary on it myself. I am starting to believe that since they could not get the “public option” which would have just did a job of undercutting the insurance companies until they went out of business, they just put so many mandates on them that at some point the insurance companies are going to be begging the government to take over their book and then the take over begins.

I cannot see how the insurance companies can survive
texasgalt (Diary) Sunday, April 4th at 1:17AM EST (link)The law mandates insurers spend 85% of premiums on care or rebate the difference. What business can run on 15%? Payroll expense alone will exceed this.
The law is designed to force us into a single payer system.
I think that is the point
Leopard1996 (Diary) Sunday, April 4th at 8:31AM EST (link)But they know that they just can’t legislate that so what they did was make it so that when this thing gets enacted, they will suffer so many losses (pre-existing condition, first time ever having policies folks) that they will get the insurance companies begging for take over in the form of a bailout, which will then open the door for the single payer system. Considering health insurers donated to Bambi’s campaign by over a 50% margin I believe I have read, I totally believe that the owners of the company, and the execs will get their 30 pieces of silver to allow for single payer, and that still does not address the supply side of health care (doctors, medical devices, etc.).

It's simple math with or without a "public option"...
LaborUnionReport (Diary) Friday, April 2nd at 12:13PM EST (link)Within the ObamaCare law, there is a $2000 per employee penalty to an an employer that does not provide coverage to employees. Since $2000 is a fraction of what most employers pay for their employees, it will be only a matter of (short) time before employers dump their employees’ insurance and opt to pay the fine. Those employees will end up on a government plan.

No, it won't work that way.
Menlo (Diary) Friday, April 2nd at 12:33PM EST (link)What you’ll end up with, by around 2016, is something just like the bank bailout. The insurance companies are are “too big to fail” types. What’s more, with a likely reduced Democrat majority and a hopefully less socialist President, you’ll see the role of government in “health insurance” akin to the big banks. Whatever the case, the insurance oligopoly will remain technically “private” though mostly owned and operated by the federal government.
I’ve also heard, though it could be incorrect, that insurance companies will have to cover people even if they apply while on the way to the ER with no application processing time. That would be very interesting if anyone else knows. Given that, I don’t see how this can work, especially considering there are no penalties, civil or criminal, for not paying the individual mandate “penalty.”

Socialized vs. Fascist Healthcare - The Individual Mandate Was Setup To Fail
GJ Merits (Diary) Sunday, April 4th at 12:53AM EST (link)There is a poison pill in OCare that I will bring to everyone’s attention tomorrow or Monday after a very good friend of mine begins a very large email campaign. The poison pill makes the Commerce Clause arguement look like child’s play.
This is the true test for those who believe the GOP will bail us out and repeal. RINOCare – our governement backed insurance cartels are even worse than socialized medicine. With the GOP in power, I believe it is highly likely they will go the fascist healthcare route and claim a victory. We will be complete idiots if we buy any of it. Only a full repeal will work – nothing less.
The mandate will not be struck down on Commerce Clause issues. There is another angle that will kill it. If the mandate is struck and RINOs attempt to save OCare by turning it into RINOCare, the only solution will be to refuse to follow the law and demand our states do the same. It should not be to hard whipping up passions on this one. Wait until Sunday or Monday and be prepared to be infuriated.

The financial failure of insurance companies
eastbaylarry (Diary) Sunday, April 4th at 1:26PM EST (link)was something I could see right from the start. One of the BIG reasons premiums keep going up are the ever increasing ‘mandates’ imposed by states. If an insurance company is ‘mandated’ to cover things like accupuncture, rates MUST go up.
The failure by the GOP to mention the ecomonic costs to insurers in simple terms during the year long buildup to Obamacare is something I find inexcusable.
Try to reconcile “keep your current insurance” with insurers going out-of-business.
2+2=4 dammit!
