Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the IL-17, announced a “3/21 Kill the Bill Money-Bomb” about 2 weeks ago. Schilling wrote in an e-newsletter that his goal for the money-bomb was to raise $10,000. They reached $10,000, five days early and re-adjusted their goal to $13,210.
Today Bobby sent out another email announcing that his campaign has now received over $18,000 in contributions. The Schilling campaign has readjusted their goal to $20,000.
Don’t be mistaken, Schilling has his work cut out for him. The 17th District has a 2-1 democrat margin and is ranked as a D+3 district on the cook pvi scale. Rock Island County is going to be a thorn in his side. Rock Island County alone has 103,000 voters. 37,000 of that are registered Dems while only 14,000 are registered Republicans. The remainder are “Unenrolled” and tend to vote democrat because of the heavily union workforce.
The fact that Schilling has managed to raise $18,000 and almost double his goal, 3 days early says something about the national mood in itself.
Schilling may be in a heavily entrenched democrat district, but he is definitely making some headway.
