of every single soldier killed in the wars, whenever it was possible.....i believe no cameras were allowed except those of the family members themselves.....and there were no media reports of the meetings, which were frequent, and often lasted far longer than scheduled....

this comes a whole lot closer to seeing "the human side" than a spotlighted midnite raid on dover.....

....just when you start thinking it can't get any worse.....there he goes again......

even worse he can't or won't leave the universe he has bult in his own mind to get a clue. Theory is fine in the class room, but it is time to fish or cut bait! Our military services and their families deserve more.

Obama and his Leftist administration mouth the words and the insincerity is clear to those of us who love traditional America, not a version of Socialist Europe/Communism. People should recall Obama standing without his hand on his heart at a campaign event in 2007. This is the "real" C-I-C.

That young man is truly the FACE of the cost of War and why NO President should EVER allow politics to decide how to WIN a War!

Obama NEEDS to man up and make a decision and STOP waffling waiting for the winds of "change" to decide. The winds will NOT change, Americans will ALWAYS be split but it takes a REAL MAN to decide what is RIGHT for the troops NOT what is politically expedient!

describes is the standard for military funerals here in Tennessee. I've attended several and read about many more, unfortunately. And that is the reason why I know that people in this country will not just buckle under and allow tyranny to destroy America.

The honor and respect shown for the troops and their mission in the south, the reverence for the flag and the still-abundant number of churchgoers guarantees that we will make a stand, first at the ballot box, and then wherever else that it counts.

We need to honor the deaths of heroes such as Marcus by making sure that the freedom they fought for overseas is still available and cherished here at home.

Again via Blackfive;

David Brooks is a reliably squishy columnist. He is put on the right side of the slate by the leftists who run the NY Times, but he is at most one step right of center and really only in comparison to the progressive crowd there. Every once in a while he hits a true note though and that was today. His topic was Obama as Commander in Chief and his question was does he have the necessary determination for that role. It is easy to see he didn't want to be a war President, all of his tough talk on the campaign trail aside. He sees this as a distraction from his transformation of our government and the rebirth of America in a Post-American world. CinC is the toughest job in America and Brooks wonders if Obama is up to it. He talked to as many military experts as he could.

Their first concerns are about Obama the man. They know he is intellectually sophisticated. They know he is capable of processing complicated arguments and weighing nuanced evidence.

But they do not know if he possesses the trait that is more important than intellectual sophistication and, in fact, stands in tension with it. They do not know if he possesses tenacity, the ability to fixate on a simple conviction and grip it, viscerally and unflinchingly, through complexity and confusion. They do not know if he possesses the obstinacy that guided Lincoln and Churchill, and which must guide all war presidents to some degree.

Their second concern is political. They do not know if President Obama regards Afghanistan as a distraction from the matters he really cares about: health care, energy and education. Some of them suspect that Obama talked himself into supporting the Afghan effort so he could sound hawkish during the campaign. They suspect he is making a show of commitment now so he can let the matter drop at a politically opportune moment down the road.

Finally, they do not understand the president’s fundamental read on the situation. Most of them, like most people who have spent a lot of time in Afghanistan, believe this war is winnable. They do not think it will be easy or quick. But they do have a bedrock conviction that the Taliban can be stymied and that the governments in Afghanistan and Pakistan can be strengthened. But they do not know if Obama shares this gut conviction or possesses any gut conviction on this subject at all.

Like Uncle Jimbo says; "Make the call sir!"

I created a "Wall of Honor" of sorts at my unit after a shipmate was KIA a couple years back. Started with just a picture of her, and then I saw that one of the Gunny giving the flag to someone's son and fairly choked up. It went on the wall and has been there since.
Honestly I didn't want the "Gratitude" thing, but I couldn't find the original from the office.
Where was he from?

is, well, I'll let you think of your own adjectives.

Pathetic comes to mind. Ridiculous comes to mind.

I think contemptible works best. Or maybe narcissistic. Yeah, narcissistic. That's the ticket.

Pile on.

Thank you.

You exactly captured the feelings of so many with your summing up of Obama's purpose in doing this-- rank publicity and opportunism.

The photograph you included is of an 8 year old little boy whose Dad was a Marine in the Reserves. He was serving in Iraq and was due to rotate home in another two weeks or so when he was KIA . My son was a friend of his and wears a tattoo in his honor. Marcus was a good man and a very loving father.
