I honestly did
On May 17, 2008, one Edward Moore “Ted” Kennedy suffered a series of seizures and was rushed from the wind farm-free Kennedy compound to (eventually) Massachusetts General Hospital where he would be diagnosed as having malignant glioma, or a cancerous brain tumor.
Ok, it could happen to any of us, and many feel if we remind anyone of how we truly feel about the “Lion of the Senate” (so-called no doubt because when George W. Bush tried to extend his hand in the mistaken belief that to disarm a liberal you have to be nice, Ted Kennedy tried to rip Mr. Bush’s arm off), something bad may befall us. Cancer plays no political favorites. There but for the grace of God….etc.
I’m sorry, no tributes here, but neither will I give ammunition to those who would say; “See? That’s how the eeeeevil Darth Ubercon thinks.”
I wouldn’t be saying anything at all, but for the apparent deathbed shenanigans being carried out in Kennedy’s name, or possibly at Senator Kennedy’s insistence.
In 2004 when the libs thought Lurch Senator Kerry had a lock on the Presidency, none other than Mr. Kennedy himself put the fix in so Mitt Romney, then the Governor of Massachusetts would be prevented from filling the vacant seat by appointment.
Whoops.
Now 2009, and guess Kennedy would like to push the “reset” button. Put it back the way it was, in case The Mob somehow gets a foothold in the state. Can’t have the peasants actually voting in someone deemed unworthy by the esteemed one.
Putting it bluntly;
Beacon Hill has long sported heavy Democratic majorities, so the state legislature has the votes to grant Mr. Kennedy’s wish. But does it have the chutzpah? An election is the more democratic option. After witnessing recent attempts by incompetent Governors in Illinois and New York to fill Senate vacancies, Massachusetts voters may have soured on such appointments. Especially when Mr. Kennedy’s motivation for changing the law is so obviously born of partisan interest, not principle.
If that mob does indeed exist, the phones need to start ringing Monday.
I can’t be any nicer to Kennedy today, the man who 40 years ago…well, you know. That incident is less an indicator of the quality of the man than it is the quality of the entire party of the left. It’s the epitome of the soul of the left since.
If Ted Kennedy was a Republican, he’d have been rightly crucified by both the right and left in America.
Pause.
Longer pause.

Kentucky Scott (Diary) Saturday, August 22nd at 4:12AM EST (link)I would expand this to say the man, his party and everything he stands for disgusts me. I sometimes wonder if we have ever lived in a time where the our “media” is willing to hold any leftist politician to any standard besides “the Democrats and the expanding state must be right all the time, every time.”
I can’t imagine what it must be like to live a life with the belief that since you are sure your intentions and goals are correct and your natural right of power is a given, that your methods of duplicity, dishonesty and deceit are not only acceptable but expected, lauded, and rewarded. I think I will want to lock myself in a media free room for a week after his passing just to avoid the undeserved, fawning eulogies he will receive. Everything the man has tried to accomplish since 1962 has made American a poorer and weaker country as a result.
Nice post
IMO, they lost the ability to distinguish between...
penguin2 (Diary) Saturday, August 22nd at 9:40AM EST (link)right and wrong a long time ago. If the media and all of the Kennedy’s friends had not participated in the cover-up of Chappaquiddick, he would have been out of office long ago. With the help of the media they don’t even have to make a pretense of doing the ‘right thing.’
They know they are corrupt and dishonest, it does not matter to them. “Being right” is just for show. “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

It is an indictment of the press that it is not common knowledge that he wrote a then secret letter to Gorby in the 80s offering his assistance in opposing Reagan’s policies visa vis the USSR. That my friends was actual treason.

IF the dems were treated and attacked as the republicans are when there is an impropriety, it would be a miracle.
This will never happen, so I write, and write to Mr. Steele & my local representatives about changing their methods and take no prisoners.
Attack and expose the dems as they do to the republicans.

Of all the despicable, low-life politicians in this country, he is among the worst
Amy Miller (Diary) Saturday, August 22nd at 10:01AM EST (link)Before I continue, let me just say that if he is NOT spearheading/supporting/putting his name behind this garbage, he needs to speak out. IMMEDIATELY.
But If he is indeed all for this piece of legislation…
I cannot imagine a more disgusting, dishonest thing to do than spearhead this kind of legislation when you and the whole country knows that you are going to DIE. They’re putting this forward as Ted Kennedy’s dying wish, and who in the world has the stomach to stand up to a DYING KENNEDY? To people in power, who control reputations, policy, and the media, that’s like denying….I dunno…who replaces Jesus for these people?
/snark
It’s despicable, dishonest, and manipulative…but then again, are we shocked by this? Nope.

Who replaces Jesus for these people?
janis (Diary) Saturday, August 22nd at 10:38AM EST (link)Oh, I think we know the answer to that question. The bigger question is:
What constitutes morals and ethics with these people? Because “I want it” is neither.

That said the dems are going to fight to get this seat. Ted’s wife could make run, Joe, even someone like Barney Frank can make run. Expect a lot Dems to fight it out for special election
The GOP bench is empty basically: Romney would never run. Be interesting to see who GOP puts up for seat
