I’d be happy if my country hasn’t gone to war (security is de facto provided by the US and, in some instances, has been provided by Panama) or had civil wars for 50+ years, esp. if I looked at my neighbors’ conflicts.

Beautiful place and people, btw. Anyways, what struck me was how poor some of the poor were. It didn’t surprise me or anything (I’m pretty familiar with the region), but it is interesting that Costa Rica is touted by leftists as an example of a potential ideal country. Of course, considering that most go for an “eco-friendly” vacation, and don’t see the real Costa Rica, with it’s problems and beauty, it makes sense that they would see it as one giant hotel suite.
