Some days you just get the feeling that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is really loving his role right now.

Fresh on the heels of his announcement earlier this week that he would put  Democrats on the record about the new Green Deal proposed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, he announced that President Trump will sign the budget deal agreed to on Monday.

Also, Trump will declare a national emergency to get his wall funding. You can just feel the happiness of Cocaine Mitch in these statements.

According to KCBD

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says President Donald Trump has indicated he’s prepared to sign the government funding bill and issue a national emergency on the border.

McConnell said he plans to support the president’s national emergency declaration and said the Senate will soon vote on the bill that’s needed to avoid a partial federal shutdown Friday.

“I’ve just had an opportunity to speak with President Trump, and he would, I would say to all my colleagues, has indicated that he’s prepared to sign the bill,” he said. “He will also be issuing a national emergency declaration at the same time. And I’ve indicated to him that I’m going to prepare — I’m going to support the national emergency declaration. So for all of my colleagues, the President will sign the bill. We’ll be voting on it shortly.”

The President should have done this a month ago if he truly believes that it is a national emergency and not have gone into a 35-day shutdown. The argument can be made logically that we do have a crisis and we should be taking action to solve it. However, there is an old axiom of “Better Late Than Never” and that truly applies here. Trump and his team do not want to walk down the path again of a shutdown.

One thing to watch though is now that Sen. McConnell has spilled the beans before the bills have actually passed, will some Democrats peel off supporting it? The Republicans have the votes in the Senate but as we are seeing on almost a daily basis, those freshman Democrats in the House are giving Speaker Pelosi some guff.

Which, if you have followed Mitch McConnell for a while might be exactly the reason why he spoke out now. Mitch has been around Washington long enough to read the room and he knows Pelosi has her hands full with the new kids in the house.

I bet that is part of this and it is just a friendly lil jab to his counterpart on the other side of the Capitol. Really is genius.

You can almost see the senior Senator from Kentucky smiling from space if it is true!
