Could another high profile Trump Administration official be looking to leave? Sounds like it is a possibility.
According to a Politico story from Sunday, the current Secretary of State and former C.I.A. director might be looking at a 2020 Senate run in his home state of Kansas.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is slated to meet with veteran Republican strategist Ward Baker on Sunday afternoon to discuss a possible 2020 run for the vacant Kansas Senate seat, according to two people familiar with the plans.
Pompeo, a former congressman and ex-CIA director who in April 2018 was confirmed as secretary of State, is considering a Senate bid, though he has yet to make a final decision. Yet party leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, are aggressively wooing him. McConnell (R-Ky.) and Pompeo spoke shortly after Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts announced his retirement.
There is no dancing around this story, this would be a big blow for the President and the country.
President Trump has already gone through a Secretary of State, Attorney General, two Chief of Staffs and a Defense Secretary in two years. Going through another S.O.S. before his first term is up and one that he gets along with from all reports would be troubling.
The narrative of those that despise Trump would be on full blast that he does not get along with those that he chooses to carry out administration policy and they burn out quickly.
However, President Trump administration and the country’s loss would be Kansas gain if Pompeo were lucky enough to be elected Senator. He is a workhorse, not a showboat and is genuinely one of the nicest people in official Washington. You never hear a bad thing about him being there is really nothing bad to say.
We need more people like Mike Pompeo in public life.
