The caravan of people who have left Central American countries to head through Mexico to the United States has provoked another stern response from President Trump this morning. He is going to cut off United States aid to those countries of origin.
According to The Hill…
President Trump on Monday said that the U.S. will begin to cut off or reduce aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador as citizens of those countries flee for the U.S. as part of a so-called “caravan” of migrants.
In a trio of tweets, the president escalated his rhetoric surrounding the group of migrants, declaring a national emergency as they approach the border and claiming that “unknown Middle Easterners” had joined the group.
“Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador were not able to do the job of stopping people from leaving their country and coming illegally to the U.S. We will now begin cutting off, or substantially reducing, the massive foreign aid routinely given to them,” Trump wrote in a tweet.
Cutting off aid to the countries of origin will most likely only encourage those governments to open the floodgates even more. Also, the President did not mention what — if any — sanction against Mexico we would be issuing being the caravan is heading north over 2000 miles of Mexico to get here.
In one of the tweets, POTUS sent this morning:
Sadly, it looks like Mexico’s Police and Military are unable to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States. Criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in. I have alerted Border Patrol and Military that this is a National Emergy. Must change laws!

How is it that Mexico can’t stop these people? I’m sure if we had a caravan of migrants walking from Los Angeles to New York we might be able to intercept them along the way.
Also, it is being noted that Trump’s assertion that the caravan includes a bunch of bad apples, including possible ISIS fighters, has not yet been proven. Once again from The Hill…
Trump’s suggestion that Middle Easterners had joined the group came shortly after a guest on “Fox & Friends” raised the specter of ISIS fighters embedding themselves in the group. The guest, Peter Hegseth, cited quotes attributed to Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales but acknowledged the claims were have not been verified.
OF COURSE, there are people with ill intent in that group. That is just a statistical reality. That the American press knew about this caravan as it WAS FORMING and has been following it ever since is a pretty good tip-off something is not right here. Since when do people who want to get into this country through the not-so-legal way broadcast their intentions ahead of time?
Something stinks to high heaven here and I hope that the President and Congress can do something ASAP to figure out a way to deal with this in a humane and safe way.
