Today may be seen as the day when the GOP begins to retreat and the Libertarian Party advances. There is simply no excuse for a single Republican to vote for the AIG tax on bonuses. It is the equivalent of handing down a proxy verdict with a harsh sentence to a group of people with no access to due process and no opportunity to face their accuser. This is the most frightening news to come out of Washington DC since the Supreme Court’s decision in Kelo vs New London.
When will the Republicans learn that their aiding in this erosion of freedom is also eroding their trust of the people.
Here’s the sobering and sad link to the list of votes today that sent the bill to the ways and means committee. Let us only hope these Republicans see the light and change their vote on the final roll call.

I agree fully that republicans should not
robmikpet (Diary) Friday, March 20th at 5:33AM EST (link)have voted this way. But once again we are shown how poisonous the media environment can be for Republicans.
The key to my premise is that the MSM holds Republicans to account but not the Democrats. As I have pointed out conservatism when meshed with issues like this take a long time to explain to voters why the rule of contractual law is important, how the Dems put kept these contracts in place, etc.
Imagine trying to do this when the MSM is shouting at you about how you love the rich and want to screw the little guy. The explanation is lost in the cacophony.
I will never totally exceuse the practise of voting to “save” yourself from this but I can understand it. I worked in a politicians office a long time ago. This person was right of Attila the Hun. EVERY phone call I took was gimme more government cheese, every one!!
It is very hard to be conservative in today’s age of free government cheese. Should we ever stop demanding an end to it, of course not. Can we – sometimes – forgive Republicans a votelike this. Yes, BUT NOT OFTEN.
I lit Rep. Young's email up over this.
Achance (Diary) Friday, March 20th at 5:43AM EST (link)He has no “hometown” reason to vote yea. He did it to store up stock in trade with the Democrats. A deal with a Democrat isn’t a deal because you can never trust them.
In Vino Veritas
In honor of Obama
sdan (Diary) Friday, March 20th at 9:54AM EST (link)they should have all voted present.
Yeah, I totally hear that
Leopard1996 (Diary) Friday, March 20th at 9:59AM EST (link)They should have probably just stayed in the not voting category, or even went as far was walk out in mass when this vote took place, and setup shop outside and state that we are letting the kiddies learn to fix their own problems.
“The accumluated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout, “Save Us!”….and I’ll look down and whisper, “No”…The Watchmen

Praying (Diary) Friday, March 20th at 10:23PM EST (link)We will have words. All I can imagine – and I’m not trying to defend this action, but There is supposedly so much public outrage over the executive bonuses at AIG… Personally, I’m far more outraged that they’ve spent what, $170 BILLION of your and my money on them so far than at the 1/10 of 1% ($165 Million) for these bonuses. And I’m even more outraged that the democrats crafted the language in the Porkulus bill to allow this to happen, and then LIED about it for several days, and then when Dodd and his cronies finally admitted it, NO ONE DID ANYTHING! This was a PERFECT opportunity for the GOP to stand up and point up the hypocrisy of the government in feigning indignation over this – what a bunch of Thespians the Liberals are. From evil ballerina Rahm Emanuel on down…
No!!!11!1!!1!1! The Bilderbergers are coming
Rats. Blunt's name is on that list.
itrytobenice (Diary) Saturday, March 21st at 12:10AM EST (link)I’d rather think he was so ignorant he accidentally hit the wrong button than that he’s so corrupt he’s willing to pass a punitive, unconstitutional tax on a group of people that have landed on the wrong side of the populist divide.
