I say, you run from the cops and endanger lives while you are running on camera or live TV, you get a butt whoopin on the spot. On camera there is no "alleged" to endangering lives, you earned yourself a little punishment on the spot.

I learned in Psych 101, the problem to changing negative behavior in our justice system is that the punishments are delayed from the action. Whatever we can do(within reason) to make it as painful (not necessarily physical) as possible on the spot of the behavior will help to eliminate it.

act. Assuming that force was justified to secure compliance, and by the time of the kick, I don't think it was, kicking is not a part of the continuum of force. If one of our Troopers had done that, if he had some seniority and an otherwise good record, the hot pursuit and other circumstances might have mitigated his conduct enough that he would only get a suspension if he owned up for it. A junior employee, one with discipline already on his record, or one who didn't own up would be fired - and the firing would stick in front of most any labor arbitrator.

I've been in law enforcement for the last two and a half years. Adrenaline is no excuse for beating a suspect who is not a threat.

I would rather that friends of law enforcement focus their efforts in another direction. Almost every time that an officer has to wrestle with a subject, lawyers jump on the "brutality" bandwagon. That's a concern for me, and endangers us because we pause before protecting ourselves.

Widening the debate to defend officers who aren't following policy and training dilutes the defense that officers need in the vast majority of cases, which are cases where an officer is defening himself and still gets sued wrongfuly. Every time I touch a subject, I expect some kind of investigation that can threaten my career. You can believe that I (and a majority of my partners) don't beat suspects that are proned out on the ground.

Instead, try getting a hold of film of officers acting properly, then showing the follow-up; the officer getting sued. It happens a lot more often. Even though these cases are often won by the officer, the damage is already done.

Sorry, but when police brutality occurs, we shouldn't cheer it on: that just sends the message that laws are only meant for certain people, and that some groups (policemen and the like) are exempt from law. This idea of non-equality isn't conservative, and if anything, the police should be held to a higher standard, given that they are the ones promoting good conduct.

I understand that there are many stresses associated with the job, but that's no reason to give the police license to do anything "in the line of duty".
