What The Hell Is It With Rich Democrats Not Paying Their Taxes?

Via Hot Air,The New York Times is reporting that Caroline Kennedy withdrew her name from consideration for the vacant New York Senate seat due to tax issues involving household help. Add this to the Geithner tax issues and I am struck by how many rich democrats do not pay their taxes. Perhaps the reason they are so eager to raise taxes on the rich, particularly Republicans, is that they assume everyone else is also cheating on their taxes.

It reminds me of all the rich liberals that lecture us on how the rich need to pay their fair share. And that evil rich conservatives need to stop fighting tax increases and be “patriotic”. Same thing with death taxes. We are told how we should pay a big chunk of our estate to the government when we die. Yet rich liberals are using trusts and other mechanisms to shield their estates from the death tax. Do you really think a Kennedy or Rockefeller is paying 45-55% to the government when they die? Of course not. They do not even pay their nanny taxes!

There’s the saying that “charity begins at home”. This is my theory:

  • Liberals follow a “victim” mentality believe that they are entitled to the compensation of others – and as such base their own fiscal mindset on principles of scarcity – they just don’t have enough resources to pay their taxes – or give for the benefit of others.
  • Conservatives, on the other hand, generally believe, “If it is to be, it is up to me.” As such, their fiscal mindset is one of plenty and opportunity – there is an abundance if we just go out and get it with hard work, and taking of risks, and being responsible – thus we have resources to spare, and will pay our taxes (albeit reluctantly) and give to the benefits of others.

A recent study shows that Conservative Voters Are More Liberal With Charity, reporting:

Of those surveyed, those who live in conservative households donated an average of $3,255 to charities outside of places of worship during the past year. By comparison, moderate households donated $2,926 and liberal households donated $1,879.

Conservatives also give significantly more money to their place of worship than liberals and moderates.

The survey found conservatives gave, on average, $1,841 to their places of worship during the past year — compared with $1,115 for moderates and $499 for liberals.

    Yearly that corresponds to:
  • Conservatives: $5,096
  • Moderates: $4,041
  • Liberals: $2,378

What do you think?

The ultimate determinant in the struggle now going on for the world will not be bombs and rockets but a test of wills and ideas-a trial of spiritual resolve: the values we hold, the beliefs we cherish and the ideals to which we are dedicated.

Liberals fight tax ultra-locally. Then collect globally. nt

Don’t leave the party, hijack it back!

The only poll that counts is the one at the ballot box.

I don’t want to be Reagan. I want to be a Chance/Soros hybrid.
