Trump Donates His First Quarter Salary to a Very Worthy Cause

Upon taking office, President Trump promised to donate his salary to charity. Yesterday, he made good on that promise by donating his first three months’ worth of salary, $78,333 to be exact, to the Antietam National Battlefield. An anonymous donor gave another $22,00o plus, bringing a total of $100,000 being donated to restore an historic building on the battlefield and replace aged fencing on the property.

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke presented the donation yesterday at a ceremony on the grounds of Antietam.

“As both the Secretary of the Interior and a military veteran, I’m deeply honored and humbled to deliver the donation to Antietam National Battlefield on behalf of President Trump,” Mr. Zinke said. “The president’s donation will allow generations of Americans to learn about our history and heritage on this sacred site.”

The Battle of Antietam, also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg, was the bloodiest single-day battle in the history of the United States, with a total of 22,717 soldiers killed, wounded or missing. The battlefield is one of the more well preserved Civil War battlefields, with very few structures impeding visitors’ view of the historic site.

A few friends of RedState were at the ceremony and very graciously shared their photos with us.
