Adios Herman and Good Effing Riddance!

From the very first time I heard Herman Cain speak my BS meter pegged. Subsequently, nothing he said nor the way he said it gave me any confidence that there was any substance behind the grin. His 999 Plan was a bad economic joke and he invoked it like a magic spell. In an sense it was because a lot of people actually took it seriously.

I grew to hate Herman when he played the Race Card against Rick Perry about the rock. Obama 2.0. Then his unorganized series of lies about the sexual harassment claims and his attack on the character of the women was Bill Clinton 2.0.  This highlighted that a lot of his support was coming from rightwingers with white guilt that couldn’t get their ablution from supporting King Barry like the leftwingers did.

Then is ludicrous performance at the editorial board concerning Libya was classic stupidity on display.

Thank goodness his longtime mistress came forward to put the final nail in the coffin that his campaign so richly deserves.

So adios you lying, cheating, shallow, victimized jerk. You had it coming.

Cain Supporters

I guess Newt will see a suige in the polls since he will likely get Cain’s supporters. I never supported Cain even from the beginning because he was a lobbyist. That is an instant disqualifier in my book.

Bachmann's camp is already reaching out to the Cain supporters

Scope (Diary) Saturday, December 3rd at 4:18PM EST (link)

and since he was considered by many to be the Tea Party candidate, Bachmann would seem to be the next logical fir for them. Not that many have been very logical.

Newt was as much, if not more so a lobbyist as Cain may have been, without registering as one. Newt’s work with Freddie, the ethanol industry, big pharma, GE Healthcare and on and on, was lobbying work no matter how he tries to nuance it. He absolutely did influence DC Republican legislators when the Medicare Part D was heading for a vote.

Bachmann should reach out to Cain supporters

I'd rather have Cain than Newt: at least Herman didn't dump 2 sick wives.

But I am supporting Rick Perry as long as he is a candidate.

If it unfortunately comes down to a choice between Gingrich and Romney, Romney is by far the better choice.

Tbone, thank you for representing Conservatives in such a way by presenting this informative diary

Time for a Redstate Cleansing of Tbone Types

A while back Erick had to remove people from being participants on red state due to certain issues. It is time for “TBONE” to be removed…am I the only one who sees this pride filled individual as violating the standards of posting almost every time he comments?
I have no prob w/ passionate discussion…but when name calling and denigration are always involved you know you are usually dealing with a nonobjective and non-intellectual person who fears honest debate due to his/her prejudiced views…Sadly, this site, except fro a few folks (i.e. Erick, Leon, and a few others..) is hardly worth the time anymore…I won’t bother to reply to any who ridicule this post either…as I won’t waste my time…(for the record, I have lived din Texas twice, and Perry is no conservative dream…)

Cain

Lucas Black Saturday, December 3rd at 2:33PM EST (link)

I was never a Cain supporter because I didn’t feel he had all the necessary qualifications to be President. I’m not sure what you feel is to be gained by kicking him in the ass on his way out the door. I’m sure that will make any Cain supporters who visit the site really want to support Rick Perry.

I don't care who anyone supports, not my job.

I agree that this post is a bit offputting,

gator_hoo (Diary) Saturday, December 3rd at 3:00PM EST (link)

but honestly, anyone who casts their primary vote based on their feelings towards an internet commenter should stay home and not vote.

Oh, I agree

Lucas Black Saturday, December 3rd at 3:16PM EST (link)

I just think that it’s unnecessary when we are all Republicans. I didn’t support Cain, but I know other Republicans did and felt quite passionate about him. Even if I disliked Cain, I don’t feel the need to kick his supporters when they are down and that’s what this sort of thing effectively does. The only candidate whose defeat I will celebrate in obnoxious fashion will be Obama.

Here is where we disagree a bit

gator_hoo (Diary) Saturday, December 3rd at 3:27PM EST (link)

I don’t think Tbone is attacking Cain’s supporters. Dan Riehl had a good post back when the first allegations hit, and I think he was right for the most part. He said he strongly disliked Cain, because Cain ran for president for nearly the sole purpose of promoting himself, his book, and raising his speakers fees. He never had an intention of becoming President, and frankly it showed. It wasn’t that he didn’t know a lot about foreign policy as much as the fact that he didn’t even care that he didn’t know about it.

Riehl’s point was that it was at best dishonest for Cain to lead his supporters on the way he did. There’s certainly some truth to that; he held himself out as something that he knew that he wasn’t. Now his supporters share some of that blame, because they kind of developed a form of hero worship of him that frankly I never understood.

So I understand Tbone’s sentiment – that someone who pretended to be something he wasn’t got his comeuppance – but I think spelling it out the way Dan Riehl did, instead of launching a rant, would have been much more acceptable.

Let me clarify this point. I think Cain's supporters

Tbone (Diary) Saturday, December 3rd at 3:51PM EST (link)

were a bunch of fools and/or Republicans who wanted to assuage their white guilt just like a lot of Obama supporters.

So no, I have no problem pointing the stupidity of Cain supporters and if they are insulted, tough. Maybe they ought to pause and reflect why they were so dumb.

Let me clarify as well

jswolter (Diary) Monday, December 5th at 1:53PM EST (link)

Tbone, as a previous Cain supporter, I can say that I do not fit into your simple characterization of Cain supporters (i.e. I was not assuaging my “white guilt”).

If I were as simple minded as you pretend to be, then I would use this comment to say that Perry is an ignorant fool of a candidate who can’t create a coherent sentence if someone were to hand him a subject and a verb.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47kZofrFwQ0

I’d also say that Perry is without character because he has lied repeatedly about his mandated vaccine:

http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2011/sep/23/rick-perry/rick-perry-says-he-got-lobbied-woman-late-stage-ca/

http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2010/feb/06/rick-perry/perry-says-hpv-vaccine-he-mandated-would-have-been/

I’d also say Perry is a typical pay-to-play politican:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/15/opinion/krumholz-beckel-perry-pharmaceutical/index.html

who has a potentially explosive homosexual scandal about to erupt any minute:

http://wizbangpop.com/2011/08/18/major-gay-sex-scandal-could-rock-2012-presidential-campaign/

I would then use the rest of my comment to berate any Perry supporters as mentally challenged rubes.

But then again, I’m not you. Therefore, I’ll keep my posts about the issues and avoid character assassination or insulting vast swaths of conservatives who might see the world differently than I do.

LOL.

I have never liked Cain from the start for all the reasons you give. I have felt bad for his supporters because he has deceived them.

The greatest feeling I have now is relief that there is no chance he will ever be our nominee for president.

As a Perry supporter, I do not see how this helps him right now, except if it moves him up one place from wherever he is now in the polls. I doubt that much of the Cain support will flow to him at least not until it filters through Gingrich first.

What a disappointment, though. He left covering his rear first and foremost and insists he is an innocent victim. The problem with that is he has left many questions unanswered and the bottom line is, if he were truly innocent, he would not have quit but he would have fought, defended his honor, and proven his innocence.

At least, that’s my take.

patriette- I believe Cain left

Scope (Diary) Saturday, December 3rd at 4:44PM EST (link)

mainly because he knew he was exposing himself as not up to prime time, especially on foreign policy. His one on one debate with Gingrich spelled out much. I believe he was going down in the polls because of his lack of qualifications, more so than his bimbo eruptions. I believe he may have gotten a bump in fundraising, but perhaps not enough to carry him through all the early states. I’m unaware that he even set up many campaign organizations even in Iowa. Why would he have been campaigning in Ohio recently?

Cain told Hannity that he will be working on getting his reputation back in the future. I’m not sure if his lawyer can require Ginger White to prove the allegations with airline ticket receipts or restaurant receipts. If Cain did in fact pay for those things it would be on his charge cards or out of his checking account which White would have no access to. Why would Cain bring that info forward. If he were to sue White, or any of the others, wouldn’t he have to prove they were lying?

I’m fairly certain that another part of his reason for suspension is because he really didn’t know if there would be more women coming forward. At least it appears if it stops now, he can maintain his marriage. It may not be in his best interest to keep any of this alive, no?

Yes, Scope, agree with everything you said. nt.

Herman's Exit

tyman Saturday, December 3rd at 3:01PM EST (link)

I was glad to see Herman get in the race, and I was glad to see him go. When he announced, I was excited because I had listened to his show and liked what I heard. Then, as I’ve said before, I started asking myself about his substance and really felt that something was missing.

Enter Rick Perry. I’ll spare everyone the rise and drop of Rick Perry (who I am enthusiastically supporting). Gov. Perry had the beliefs and experience that I felt that Herman was missing. Whether his support in the polls was artificially inflated, or artificially deflated is also another matter.

I don’t worship any man, but I do feel like Perry is a good man and has the right beliefs and experience to be President.

At the end of September Herman won the Florida Straw Poll.

Then, Herman allowed himself to be a tool of the media by being a willing participant in the slander of Perry with the rock. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t like to see anyone, and I mean anyone falsely put down. To my knowledge, Cain never apologized to Perry about this.

Then Cain said that if Perry were the nominee, he couldn’t support him. Then he said he would support him, just not 100%. And this was based on Herman’s misrepresentation of Perry’s stance on immigration.

Oh, and let’s not forget that he blamed the Perry campaign for leaking the harassment story WITHOUT ANY PROOF.

I truly am sorry that it happened like this, but I kind of felt like Herman had a day of reckoning coming. Sooner or later, blaming someone like he did will catch up to you. Call it karma or what have you.

Needless to say, I feel like Herman, Bachmann and Newt have not been serious candidates as they either have books already out, or they are shortly to come out and they’ve used the Presidential race as a book tour. Herman was going on a book tour before he started to gain in the polls. Bachmann’s book is going to come out soon, based on what I’ve read. The facts that Newt didn’t file in Missouri and he didn’t file for all of New Hampshire’s delegates tell me that he wasn’t serious (not to mention the fact that his staff didn’t think he was either).

When did Herman write his book? He declared in May so I’m thinking that it all was very carefully concocted.

This truly is the weirdest nominating season I can remember. All at a time when this country needs someone take this country as far back to what the founding fathers had in mind as Obama has carried it away.

Tyman...Tbone..I Agree!

carolynr Saturday, December 3rd at 4:13PM EST (link)

Both of you have hit the nail on the head concerning Cain. I, like you Tbone…did not like the race card played…this has me ready to vomit…everything is division with Obama…and now Cain picks up on it. 999….it’s like nobody ever really thought about the thing. It was so easy to figure out. Perry said it in one sentence…NH do you want a 9% tax….nobody raised their hands. His plan was a TAX HIKE. Where he got a jobs plan from…is like Obama doing his arithmetic with unemployment over 400,000 but the rate dropping to 8.6%…huh?

If there was a conspiracy…it seemed to be against Perry. Perry was responsible for the leaked info…nope. Perry was insensitive about a rock that was on leased property that he nothing to do with. Perry has a bad immigration policy. Well Perry is not for amnesty…but Newtie sure doesn’t sound like it.

Oh..Tbone..you were also right about Cain trashing those women’s reputations…including Ginger White’s. Nope…..I want character in my president….Who has it….Perry.

Tbone,

Not that you have any reason to care what I think, but this post does seem a bit over the top.

I am inclined to agree with you that Cain was a horrible nominee, and not the “man of character” that we were too often told to believe he was without evidence. Certainly, I will never believe he was the staunch conservative that people claimed, despite his tacking moderate-to-liberal practically everytime he was off-prompter.

That said, he’s out now. He won’t be the nominee, and likely won’t take significant votes from anyone. Certainly, you can argue that without a Cain rise, Perry is still a frontrunner instead of potential frontrunner, but we’ll never know.

I tried to tone it down as part of my

Cain's Book Tour

donald_24 Saturday, December 3rd at 3:08PM EST (link)

Cain’s campaign was a book tour in disguise. He spent a substantial amount of time in non early primary states. And he spent quite a bit of time in book stores. When I watched him be intervieed by Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC, Cain was in a Barnes & Noble in TEXAS. What is a serious presidential candidate doing at a B&N in Texas. That is not an early state, and he knows perfectly well PErry will win the state. And when Neil Cavuto interviewed him this week, he was in Ohio. What is in Ohio that is so important? Barnes & Noble?

It's not a conspiracy

texashistorian (Diary) Saturday, December 3rd at 4:01PM EST (link)

Cain is gone because he didn’t get it done from a professional standpoint. He just couldn’t articulate the issues on a level that went beyond general statements. Foreign policy silliness, inept reponses to allegations, and inadequate replies to questions on the sales tax portion of his 9-9-9. It’s not that he was a bad candidate, he just didn’t run a good campaign. It wasn’t a giant conspiracy to get him out.

The study of history is a powerful antidote to contemporary arrogance. It is humbling to discover how many of our glib assumptions, which seem to us novel and plausible, have been tested before, not once but many times and in innumerable guises; and discovered to be, at great human cost, wholly false.

I don’t think you posted this kind of diaries when Palin was ground down by the media, and if anyone had expressed similar sentiments about Perry’s debate gaffe you’d have screamed bloody murder. This is a defeat for conservatism, and no victory for the next front-runner who will be similarly attacked.

I would be surprised if he was even a capable executive considering his monumental lack of executive ability in his failed campaign. An executive must be able to make clear decisions. You cannot run to your advisers to see what to do. You must know basically what to do in your gut. Herman Cain just is an empty suit and this whole charade was a bad joke and a terrible waste of time.

He may be a good voice for conservative viewpoints but, he clearly does not take these views to heart. He merely parrots what others say is conservative and runs to the bank. He seems to be motivated by greed and vanity. It makes me pity those who he tricked into supporting him. He frankly owes you and all of us an apology for this stunt.

At least we’ll never need to hear the phrase “9-9-9″ ever again!

I think you nailed it

“He merely parrots what others say is conservative and runs to the bank”. Bingo. And that’s part of the whole affirmative action problem I have with him.

Never talk down another Republican. The way you all are going Obama is going to win because none of you are open to the other guy. If any of you here believe Cain is a racist, you are crazy. Next thing to happen is tbone will be complaining about Newt. If this is the state of the GOP, we are in real trouble.

Tbone - Also glad that Cain is gone.

And it should not have taken multiple sex scandals for people to wake up to the fact that Cain was a very weak and ill-informed candidate whose biggest asset was his personality and charisma. Haven’t we had enough of the cult of personality thing? Good grief, I’m so sick of the fact that so many on our side are still falling for this kind of schtick – and Newt is the latest flavor of the weak in this area. We’ve had 4 years of it with Obama, so when are we going to finally learn our lesson?

Also, when are we finally going to learn that debating skill is only 1 facet of evaluating our candidates? Again, we already have a good debater in the WH, so how is that working out for everyone?
