James Carville

Posted at 11:20pm on Jun. 11, 2008 Better to nestle a viper to your bosom*, Senator Obama. [UPDATED]

James Carville! Why will you not use your powers for *GOOD*?

By Moe Lane

Update: Via Hot Air, a video made of awesome.

Or are you? You are, after all, one of Hillary's... let's just say "one of Hillary's" and leave it at that; probably not best to rock that particular boat right now**. Anyway, via Ben Smith:

Former Clinton aide James Carville suggested on CNN just now that Obama offer Al Gore the vice presidential nomination.

"I think if I was Senator Obama I would say the biggest economic problem we face is the biggest national security problem and the biggest environmental problem. And if I were him, I would ask Al Gore to serve as his vice president, his energy czar, in his administration to reduce our consumption and reliance on foreign energy sources," he told Wolf Blitzer.

Ben - who seems to have been just the slightest bit soured on the entire Obama thing (good job, Ben Smith comments section! Damn good job!), goes on to note:

I'm not sure James Carville -- with whom Obama had a public spat -- is the first person whose advice he's going to take, though come to think of it there is an open slot on the vetting committee today.

Considering the advice that Carville's giving: why, yes, please put him in that slot, Senator Obama.

Please***.

Posted at 10:41am on May 6, 2008 Change we can believe in

By Kevin Holtsberry

Obama is wrong about so many things I don't have the time to begin to list them. But I will say this, he does seem to know James Carville:

"Well, you know, James Carville is well-known for spouting off his mouth without always knowing what he's talking about," Obama told "Nightline." "And I intend to stay focused on fighting for the American people because what they don't need is 20 more years of performance art on television. And that's what James Carville and a lot of those folks are expert at ... a lot of talk and not getting things done for the American people."

Can we all agree that less James Carville on TV would be a good thing for America?

And an amusing Civil War General reference!

By Moe Lane

No, not that, like General Lee, Senator Obama really badly needs to win in Pennsylvania next month. Although he does.

Anyway, the quote is not this comment from James Carville regarding his comparison of Gov. Bill Richardson to Judas Iscariot:

"I was quoted accurately and in context, and I was glad to give the quote and I was glad I gave it," Mr. Carville said. "I’m not apologizing, I’m not resigning, I’m not doing anything."

...it's this comment from Allahpundit, full of bemusement that it looks like Carville will actually get away with it.

Is "damn right I meant it" the new hallmark of admirable buck-stops-here character? I kind of wish Obama had taken this approach in his Wright speech, extending a middle finger and then letting his media sycophants spin the hell out of it for him. "'The bird' — obscene gesture or eloquent expression of speaking truth to power?" wonders Chris Matthews on Hardball.

It would have been a significant change in tone - possibly one that might have worked better for him in the long run, particularly in the Rust Belt states. On the other hand, if Senator Obama had the self-confidence necessary to pull off such a gambit he'd have run a completely different primary campaign anyway. One where he'd have either clinched the nomination by now - or crashed and burned, true, but you have to bet big to win big*. What was that comment about General Joe Hooker, again?

Oh yes: something along the lines of how he was the best poker player in the world, until it came time to raise the pot a thousand dollars.

*Just ask John McCain.
