Posted at 11:33pm on Jun. 27, 2008 Earmarxist Don Young Named American Taxpayer Hero
He might be good on taxes, but he's horrible on spending
By Bluey

Rep. Don Young, the Alaska Republican who says he's proud to have sponsored the "Bridge to Nowhere" earmark, was named a "Hero of the American Taxpayer" yesterday by a coalition of anti-tax groups.
The award is based on a number of key votes, "which have always been primarily about taxes much more than spending," according to Americans for Tax Reform. Still, based on a previous list of winners, it paints a bad picture. Past "heroes" have included convicted criminal Duke Cunningham and Dennis Hastert, who oversaw the explosion of pork-barrel spending as House speaker.
In a press release sent by Young's office today, the lone Alaska congressman boasts, "Making sure that the hard-earned money of the American people stays in the pockets of those who earn it and not the government coffers, has always been a priority of mine."
Then, later in the day, Young's office bragged about $58 million worth of pork-barrel projects he had secured for Alaskans. "I never take the ability to get funding for these projects for granted," he said, without noting, of course, that the money comes from taxpayers like you and me.
Young has always been an egregious earmarker, but the $398 million he secured for the "Bridge to Nowhere" topped it all. In April he again came under attack from his colleagues in the House and Senate, who voted to support a Department of Justice investigation into the so-called "Coconut Road" earmark -- a pork project inserted into a bill after it had already passed.

Posted at 9:06am on Jun. 19, 2008 Don Young ($-AK) Provides More Reasons to Beat Don Young
By Erick
We have more information this morning that should give you incentive to contribute to Sean Parnell (R-AK) in his bid to unseat Don Young ($-AK).
Have you heard about the A-Team? That's Don Young's list of lobbyists who, in any and all cases, should be put through to him should they call Young's office.
A number of news outlets are reporting on this and other interesting items from a checklist for interns from Young's office. Young's spokeswoman says the list was not the office's official list, but rather a list put together by interns for interns. Anyone who has ever been an intern knows that the intern generated list is by far the most accurate reflection of what goes on in the office.
Andy Roth references one section of this check list:

Posted at 10:39am on May 27, 2008 Sean Parnell: Even or Ahead of Don Young in AK Polling
By Erick
While RedState was not mentioned, Alaska Lt. Governor Sean Parnell gets a lot of coverage in CQ Politics today.
Democrats have been salivating over the opportunity to unseat Republican Rep. Don Young as he seeks an 18th full-term as Alaska’s lone House representative, but Republicans may beat them to the punch.Republican Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell stands a strong chance of defeating Young in the party’s Aug. 26 primary, according to recent polls and analysts, which would provide Democrats with a new opponent for the general election.
Sean Parnell is polling even with or above Don Young in the latest polls from the state.
The additional beauty of this is that the Democrats are expecting to run against Don Young. A Parnell victory will throw them for a loop.
You can contribute to Sean Parnell here.

Posted at 8:44am on May 19, 2008 Shut up and save the GOP
By Erick
At some point today you are going to spend $10.00 to grow your waist line.
You know it and I know it.
Whether it is the Quarter Pounder Meal, value sized, or the Caramel Mocha Skinny Latte with the cinnamon on top and the cinnamon roll at Starbucks, or a combination of the two with something from the vending machine, you're going to waist $10.00 on empty calories.
You're also going to cuss about the incompetence of the GOP.
David Freddoso has an article at NRO about Sean Parnell, the Lt. Governor of Alaska running against Don Young in the Republican Primary.
Instead of consuming empty calories and bitching about the GOP today, why don't you shut up and do something about it?
Let's face it: we can complain all day about the GOP. But if we're not willing to put our money where our mouth is, we might as well just shut up.
I've given Sean $100.00. How much will you give? Make your minimum donation $10.00.
If you don't trust the series of tubes we call the internet or you want to give less than $10.00 (wimp), mail a check to Parnell for Congress, P.O. Box 100719, Anchorage, AK 99510.

By Erick
Just $10.00*. That's what's needed.
RedState endorsed Sean Parnell in his bid to unseat Don Young.
But it's going to take money to do it. Don Young has been milking gobs of money from every dirty person he can.
Sean Parnell needs our help.
$10.00, people. $10.00 to beat Don Young.
Give up that trip to Starbuck. Give the cost of your double carmel latte and pumpkin spice cookie to Sean Parnell. Give up that trip to McDonalds. Give the cost of your quarter pounder value meal value sized and chocolate chip cooke three pack to Sean Parnell.
You people bitch about the party losing its way all the freaking time. I do too.
It's time to put up or shut up. If we're not willing to give to people like Sean Parnell, well then we get what we deserve -- the party of Don Young instead of the party of Ronald Reagan.
$10.00 to clean house. If you can't give $10.00, stop complaining about the state of the party.
By the way, I gave $100.00. You can give more than $10.00 if you want to.
* The post was originally $5.00, but David All informs me that Slatecard gets eaten alive by the credit card processors if they go less than $10.00. If you want to give less than $10.00, mail a check to Parnell for Congress, P.O. Box 100719, Anchorage, AK 99510.
And heck, I bet you've never had an excuse to send a letter to Alaska anyway, except trying to find Santa Claus. So get out that "forever" stamp and send Sean money.

Posted at 5:52pm on May 15, 2008 Don Young Votes for Tax Increase
By Erick
John Boehner, Roy Blunt, and the House GOP leadership, having failed to deal decisively and boldly to purge the cancer that is Don Young from the House GOP Caucus, got to witness him vote to raise taxes today. He joined 31 other Republicans who have no real leaders to show them the way.
The tax increase is a .5% increase on individuals who make more than $500,000.00 a year. The Democrats, naturally, called it a "Patriot Tax." They should have called it what it is: the "Rape the Entrepreneurial Class Tax Law" or RECTAL.
You know, I think we, all of us here at RedState, should commit to a project: every work day from now until he is crushed in the primary, write some bad about Don Young. Highlight his arrogance, highlight his scandals, highlight his votes, highlight his corruption, highlight his general jackassery -- highlight all the stuff to make sure when people are Googling him, they find out everyone hates Don Young except Don Young and a bunch of people in the federal pen.
By the way, the Club for Growth PAC put out a press release on this. Yes, they *do* get involved in primaries, Don Young.

Posted at 10:00am on Apr. 29, 2008 Give me a freaking break, Tom Cole
By Erick
Sigh. Is it any wonder the GOP is about to get swept out to sea in the House of Representatives?
U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla. said that even though Alaskans might be lukewarm about the Republican on the presidential ticket, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the state is so red that it won't matter when it comes to the congressional race. McCain will "provide cover" for Republican candidates in Alaska, including Rep. Don Young, Cole said. . . .
"But so far as I know, nobody's been charged with anything and I think that becomes really critical. At the end of the day, I've served with Don Young. I believe he's an honorable man. I don't have any doubt about it."
You know, if Mississippi 1 is not enough handwriting on the wall, the GOP deserves what it gets. Seriously. Don't get me wrong, I like Tom Cole. But I think he is at worst delusional and at best spinning to make up for dismal candidate recruiting this year.
I mean, heck, he defended Rick Renzi (R-AZ) too.
The embattled Renzi said months ago that he would not seek reelection this year but vowed to serve out the rest of his term. In February, after Renzi was indicted on 35 federal charges, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) pressed for him to step down.
In the zeal to protect incumbents, the GOP seems hell bent on throwing the party under the bus. Obama must be advising them, considering he's an expert at throwing people under the bus.

Posted at 9:53am on Mar. 17, 2008 RedState Endorses Sean Parnell (R-AK)
By The Directors
Don Young (R- Don Youngland) is embittered, corrupt, out of touch, and part of the problem in Washington. His fifteen minutes are up and the time has come to send him back to Alaska, though we know he'll be heading to K Street instead.
In the past few years, Don Young voted to force workers into an open, public ballot on the issue of unionization, he voted against reauthorization of the Patriot Act, he voted to expand government funded stem cell research, and he railed against conservatives who wanted to cut earmarks by calling the taxpayer dollars his money. Don Young is also under FBI investigation for taking bribes, illegal gratuities and other unreported gifts from an Alaskan corporation, and he has dubiously forced on the people of Florida a road they don't want all because one of his donors wanted the road.
We fully support and encourage you to support Alaska's Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell in his bid to unseat Don Young in the Republican Primary.
We commend Governor Sarah Palin for supporting her Lieutenant Governor and recognizing that the Republican Party must clean up its own house. Putting Don Young on the trash heap of history is a perfect place to start.
