Hey, look mom, renewable energy!  And from trash!  The Grand Rapids Press reports this morning on a big win-win for Kent County residents and the private sector as a deal has been struck to tap the county landfill for it's methane gas.

Posted at 8:04pm on May 13, 2008 Hillary meets Barry on the Senate floor

Ice, ice, baby.

By Mark Kilmer

Dem Presidential nominee, presumptive, Barack Obama and Hillary met on the Senate floor today, and CG Beyond the Dome blogger David Nather tells us about it.

Les us see, Ken Salazar moderated a "half hug" between the two. Each of them met separately with Michigan Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow regarding what the DNC is gonna do with all that junk, all that junk inside their trunk. (Michigan Dems want give Hillary 69 delegates and Barry 59, just to get the delegation seated, but Hillary evidently said nyet last week. She wants the world and she wants it now!) They each met with Florida's lone Dem Senator, Bill Nelson, about the junk down there.

Don't ask me what the Dems are going to do. My analysis stops when the other side goes FUBAR.

As for the Massachusetts delegation, each candidate chatted with a different member thereof. Obama talked to JF Kerry, and Nather observes that Barry got a lecture from the Zen Master:

Obama also had a lengthy conversation with Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee and now one of Obama's supporters, in a scene that looked like a tutorial from a veteran presidential candidate to a student who is probably about to go through a general election himself.

Considering that Kerry was the worst major party Presidential candidate of any of our lifetimes, this must have been an hilarious site to see.

But below the fold, the word for which we've all been waiting. What happened when Hillary spoke to Obama supporter Senator Ted Kennedy? (Hint: He didn't buy her a drink.)

Posted at 2:00pm on May 11, 2008 The Superbowl Champion Patriots

By Robert A. Hahn

I’m a bit tired of the Sunday shout shows, so this morning I played hooky. I watched The Football Channel instead.

They were interviewing Bill Belichick. As you know, he’s demanding that the New England Patriots be named Superbowl champions. You probably remember that New England lost the Superbowl, 17 to 14. But Belichick questions whether the score should really determine the winner.

Posted at 1:34pm on Apr. 30, 2008 Obama and Clinton turn their noses (and middle fingers) up at Michigan (again)

You've read about the latest scheme from four Michigan Democrats to try to get the Wolverine State's delegates seated at their national convention in Denver, right?  Word started breaking yesterday afternoon and was all over the wires this morning that Carl Levin, Ron Gettelfinger and a couple other lefty big-shots sent a letter urging the Clinton and Obama camps to come to a new sort of compromise that would avoid that nasty disenfranchisement thing.

What's a brother got to do to get a little love around here?  And no, that's not a Tom Athans joke.  I'm talking about Michigan, the Democrat National Committee, the two kids they have pulling hair and name calling in their primary contests and their chairman, Howard Dean.

Posted at 9:23am on Mar. 26, 2008 Do the Dems really want to debate on CBS?

By Mark Kilmer

CBS News had planned to stage a Dem Presidential debate last December 10, but that one was cancelled due to labor strife (writers' strike). Every single other television network imaginable has hosted an event, but CBS won't get its opportunity until April 16 in Philly.

The New York Times claims, among other sundry things:

Another day in Michigan and another round of wretched headlines for Democrats locally. Which is good and bad. With folks like the Hip Hop Mayor down in the D all of the negative coverage comes back and bites us all in the backside. But when you’ve got Democrats tripping over themselves to batter eachother like we continue to see in the Presidential Primary race? Well that’s just plain a beautiful thing. It’s one thing when a member of the opposing party levels a charge but when one of your own people comes with both guns blazing? Look out.

In honor of Senator Hillary Clinton's ground breaking decision to step foot inside the State of Michigan this morning I thought this would be a good time to take a look at all of the amazing visits she and Barack Obama have made to the Great Lakes State in the last year.

Disenfranchisement.  That's the word of the day.  Every year come election time Democrats whip that one out of the old memory bank and start bandying it about to convince folks that their party isn't getting a fair shake.  They tell the press that the Republicans are doing it.  They tell various groups (usually minorities) that it's being done to them.  The whole deal.  The word gets used almost as much as "unconscionable."

Posted at 10:07am on Feb. 25, 2008 God Bless Texas

By Erick

“The Democrats, God bless 'em, are about to hand us the prototypical liberal boogeyman as their nominee.”

A week from tomorrow, Texas will either prolong the bloody battle for the Democratic nomination or give the nomination to a self-admitted former cokehead. Either way, we should thank Texas.

Let's presume, if we will, that Texas goes for Barack Hussein Obama, a name that is not quite poll tested and mother approved. That presumption is not a safe one because even now the forces of Clinton are going into hispanic communities and churches to remind them that hispanics would be minority number one in a Clinton administration and minority number three in an Obama administration, behind blacks and everybody else. With thirty percent of the voting strength in the Texas Democratic Primary, Hispanics could help Hillary pull it off.

In any event, I presume Obama will win. And we should delight in his victory. Hillary has been too timid to throw a punch. We will not be.

We will remind people that Obama admitted using cocaine. While the left loves to accuse George Bush of doing the same, one of these two men wrote a book and admitted he did so. And that man's name is not Bush.

We will point out that when Obama was in the Illinois Senate he voted to allow porn shops to open within 1,000 feet of churches and elementary schools.

Likewise, Obama voted against trying high school students as adults if they committed gun crimes on school grounds — I'm sure the folks in Colorado will love that vote.

Obama says he only wants gun owners to be able to use their guns for sport and he has a record to prove it. Obama supported allowing criminals to sue their victims if their victims shot them.

Crucially, for those pro-life voters who right now seem to be fawning over Obama, we'll remind them that he is to the left of Hillary on abortion — going so far as to oppose the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

For years the Democrats have tried to get away from the anti-gun, big government, high tax, abortion on demand liberal label. They've gone so far as to rebrand themselves progressive. Obama champions the failed schemes of the last one hundred years, repeatedly rejected by the voters, to fix what he claims are the failed policies of the last eight years. The Democrats, God bless 'em, are about to hand us the prototypical liberal boogeyman as their nominee.

By the time it's all over, the only defense Obama is going to have is to resort to the standard liberal playbook and scream racism when anyone dares point out his voting record. And the public we have not heard from year, the public that swings elections but generally does not engage in primaries, are going to come running to John McCain begging him to save the nation from the liberal anti-gun former cokehead whose feminist wife hates America.

America has rejected liberalism. Obama thinks he can repackage it in new rhetoric and move it to the left of Hillary. He cannot. I relish the fight against the man who has no problem with porn shops across the street from elementary schools and terrorist leaders in the White House. That'll go over real well.

The only thing better than an Obama candidacy is a Hillary one after a bloody primary fight. As a result, God bless Texas.

I hesitate to even direct you to this chilling column by Detroit Free Press columnist Dawson Bell but it's too interesting a discussion not to have.  Speculation is growing among Lansing insiders that tonight might actually bring us Jennifer Granholm's final State of the State address.

Posted at 11:13am on Nov. 9, 2007 Is Michigan's early primary dead? Mark Brewer and John Edwards sure hope so...

Just a quick note on the save-the-primary process...

The Senate yesterday overwhelmingly approved an updated bill that would save the January 15 joint primary but there's a catch.  Without a procedural move granting the bill "immediate effect" it won't go into effect until March.  Kinda late, don't you think?

The Dems all walked away from the immediate effect vote.  That way they can claim they voted for the joint primary, that they didn't WANT to disenfranchise millions of Michigan voters and that they aren't really in the pocket of Big Labor when in reality they are.
