Trump Makes a Sunday Night Grab for What Was Seized in Raid on Attorney's Office

And people in Hell want Slurpees.

The legal colonoscopy being given President Trump and his personal attorney, Michael Cohen has grown increasingly uncomfortable, as it inches closer to Trump’s personal affairs.

It’s almost as if running for an office as important as U.S. president, when everything in your history is corrupt and unscrupulous is just a really awful idea.

Now, Trump is hoping to head off further troubles by having his attorneys request to review whatever was taken from Cohen’s office in last week’s FBI raid on his home and office.

The request was made of a federal judge on Sunday night. Cohen, who had a habit of making recordings of his conversations, to be later played for others, also wants to see what they have.

According to the Washington Post, they may get their answer shortly, as the first hearing is set for later Monday.

Trump’s request, in the form of a letter from other lawyers representing him, could further complicate a hearing set for Monday afternoon. During that session, lawyers for Cohen are expected to tell the judge overseeing the case how many legal clients he has and how many seized documents he thinks might be covered by attorney-client privilege.

Cohen is set to attend the hearing. Also expected to be on hand is adult-film star Stormy Daniels, whom Cohen secretly paid $130,000 in 2016 to keep quiet the details of an alleged sexual liaison she had with Trump.

Prosecutors indicated in court filings Friday that Cohen has been under criminal investigation for months by the U.S. attorney in Manhattan and that a grand jury has been hearing evidence in the case.

Shady lawyer, shady dealings.

And while Trump is raging about attorney-client privilege, prosecutors are pointing out that he’s not really much of a lawyer. He barely has any clients, outside of Trump, and he doesn’t really do a lot of legal work.

As has been mentioned, he’s more of a “fixer” for Trump, arranging payoffs to mistresses, in exchange for their silence.

A recent report says that he also arranged to make an affair between Donald Trump, Jr. and his mistress “go away.”

Yeah, real nice line of work there, guy.

Cohen is arguing that the policies in place with the government that are there to protect attorney-client privilege aren’t enough, on their own, and that his lawyers should be allowed to look over the material seized, before investigators sink their teeth into it.

Trump’s lawyer has lawyers.

An 8-page letter to U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood accuses the Justice Department of “aggressive” actions, designed at eliminating the president’s right to “full assertion of every privilege argument available,” according to attorney Joanna Hendon.

There are policies and procedures in place to shield attorney-client privilege.

That procedure involves having a “taint team” of prosecutors outside the investigation review all the material and separate what is covered by the privilege. A lawyer’s communications with a client are not covered by the privilege if those discussions do not involve legal advice, or were used to further a crime or fraud.

Under the procedure, the taint team would turn over to the case investigators all the material that is relevant and not covered by attorney-client privilege.

That’s not enough to assuage Trump’s tattered nerves, apparently.

“The president objects to the government’s proposal to use a ‘taint team’ of prosecutors from the very office that is investigating this matter to conduct the initial privilege review of documents seized from the President’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen,’’ Hendon’s letter said.

She added that “the president respectfully requests” that the judge issue an order barring the taint team from conducting an initial review of the seized material and require the government to turn over a copy of that material to Cohen’s lawyers.

The president further wants Cohen to tell him what materials might relate to him, as well as give copies of the material to he and his [other] attorneys. He then wants a judge to decide what is and is not privileged information.

Cohen really is in the hot seat. According to those with information on last week’s raid, he’s being investigated for potential wire fraud, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations.

At question are his payments to Stormy Daniels, the porn star. Was this payment to protect Trump’s candidacy in the 2016 election?

Also, the FBI is looking at possible fraud, regarding Cohen’s ownership of several taxi medallions.

The guy is as shady as his boss. That’s all the more reason that Trump taking that corruption out of New York, where it’s just blended in with everybody else’s corruption, to such a broad and visible platform was a really, really awful idea.
