The Wall - Coming This Spring (Progress?)

No, seriously. What is wrong with these people?

They’re supposed to be lawmakers, working to keep this nation afloat, and to forward policy that is beneficial to our American way of life.

They are our representatives, voted in by the American people, tasked with being problem solvers and to carry out the duties of their office in a manner that is thoughtful, dignified, and professional.

That’s what they’re supposed to do, at least.

What we got was a gaggle of partisan children.

A new report today is that the acrimony between Republicans and Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee at this point is such that a literal wall is being planned, in order to separate the staffers of both parties.

A partition is planned to go up in the committee’s secure spaces, as early as this spring.

Some Republican members of the committee said they were unaware of the plans for the wall. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) suggested that the idea came from GOP Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (Calif.)

“I’m not part of that decision,” Conaway told CBS. “You’ve got to talk to Devin. I don’t know what they’re trying to do one way or the other.”

Nunes.

They haven’t removed that treacherous little bug, yet?

Florida Republican Rep. Tom Rooney is describing the relationship between Republicans and Democrats on the committee as “poisonous.”

He also had no idea about the alleged coming wall, but recognizes that things are pretty tense, right now.

“I swear to God I didn’t know that,” he said.

Rooney added that bipartisanship is “gone” from the committee, and blamed an investigation by the Office of Congressional Ethics into GOP staff for alleged leaks. He told CBS that the probe is investigating the “entire” staff, even “the woman up front that answers the phone.”

The tensions seem to have boiled over, due to the ongoing Russia probe, and the release of the Nunes memo, which (unsuccessfully) attempted to highlight abuses of the Justice Department and FBI in obtaining FISA warrants against a former Trump campaign aide, Carter Page.

Meanwhile, the Democrats have issued their own counter-memo, and are awaiting approval of President Trump, in order to have it released.

This memo is 10 pages long, and according to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, is too long for the president to read, so he’ll be getting briefed on it, before deciding whether to approve its release, or not.

Also plaguing the committee is concerns over leadership, as several Democrats have called for Nunes’ removal over the memo controversy, and delays in the committee’s investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.

Nunes gave lip service to recusing himself from the Russia probe in early 2017, after taking it upon himself to brief the White House on evidence he’d received from sources within the White House (??), before letting his colleagues on the committee know what he was doing.

As someone who worked for Trump on his campaign, his dogged efforts to derail the probe seem right in line with what others who have worked for Trump’s team have done.

For now, the committee seems to be lagging behind in their part of the probe.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was subpoenaed to appear earlier this week, but refused, after what was said to be concerns over what the White House would agree to allow him to talk about.

He’s due to speak to special counsel Robert Mueller’s team soon.

In the meantime, the committee members will continue to act like children and get a taxpayer funded paycheck for doing absolutely nothing productive.
