Somehow, this is exactly the response you would expect from the uncomfortably pro-Russia Representative Dana Rohrabacher.

Speaking like a man with an outside agenda, Rohrabacher pretty much sank a dagger into Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ back, while appearing on CNN earlier Friday.

With no shading, whatsoever, the California Republican accused Sessions of betraying the president and working for “fake news” media, like CNN.

“The American people now are getting a taste of what people in Washington have known over this last year,” he said. “And that is Jeff Sessions betrays the people who have had faith in him and faith in him to do his job and faith in him not to succumb to pressures from the outside, like from CNN and other news bureaus, to try to do their bidding.”

“When he recused himself from this whole Russia thing, he knew he was setting in motion the establishment of a special prosecutor and a special prosecutor, as happens in Washington, we understand, is just giving unlimited power to someone to go after you,” Rohrabacher added.

So the problem isn’t with the series of events that preceded the investigation, like Russians hacking into the DNC emails, creating fake social media pages and profiles, in order to froth up the political waters, or Trump surrounding himself with people who had ethically questionable ties to Russia. Nor was it about firing FBI Director James Comey in the middle of an investigation, and then saying to NBC’s Lester Holt that he was fired because of the “Russia thing,” rather than just sticking to the script given to White House officials to repeat publicly, the day before.

Nope.

It’s all on Sessions.

“You don’t do that unless there is some really tangible reason for that, and Jeff Sessions had no real reason to recuse himself,” Rohrabacher said.

Maybe he did. Maybe he didn’t.

Sessions stepped aside after it was discovered that he failed to mention a 2016 meeting he had with the Russian ambassador during his confirmation hearings.

Sessions was still a senator, at that time, and his contacts with the ambassador could have possibly been written off as just a normal course of business for a U.S. senator. However, he was also acting as a key adviser to Trump’s campaign, at the time, and that makes it a bit more sticky.

He recused himself after being advised to do so by officials with the Department of Justice. He wasn’t just abandoning Trump to the wolves.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein eventually appointed Robert Mueller to act as special counsel and to begin the investigation into Russian tampering in the election, as well as any potential collusion or obstruction from the Trump campaign.

So far, there have been several indictments for lying to the FBI and some are speculating potential money laundering charges are upcoming.

Trump’s problem with Sessions is that he wanted his own Eric Holder or Loretta Lynch – somebody that would disregard law and order and dedicate himself to protecting the president, rather than upholding the law.

For that, GOP lawmakers like Rohrabacher consider him a traitor.

But then, Rohrabacher is the same guy that said he had proof Russia didn’t interfere in the election: Julian Assange (WikiLeaks) told him so.

Yeah. Totally believable.
