Robert Mueller's Special Investigation Is Costing Taxpayers HOW MUCH?

So how much is special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation costing the American taxpayers?

The official report from the Justice Department is due to be released next week, ABC News has apparently already got a look at the figures. According to those reports, the months-long probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, and any possible attempts to obstruct the investigation comes in at a price tag of $5 million.

For you penny-pinchers, that’s about the equivalent of 2 of Trump’s weekends at one of his lavish resorts.

So what are we buying with our money?

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein tapped Mueller to serve as special counsel for the investigation in May. Since then, Mueller has hired more than 16 attorneys, with expenses for FBI agents, support staff, travel, office materials, and prosecutors.

Wait… 16 attorneys for only $5 million? Mueller must have had a coupon.

So far in Mueller’s investigation, a federal grand jury has indicted former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and business partner Rick Gates on 12 counts, including money laundering and tax evasion. Former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos also pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia.

And earlier today, it was announced that former national security adviser Michael Flynn had pleaded guilty to a single count of lying to the FBI about contact with Russian officials.

The buzz is that there has been a plea deal struck, and that Flynn, who feels abandoned by Trump, is ready to testify that Trump and members of his team asked him to set up a backchannel line of communication with Russia, initially to work towards stopping ISIS in Syria.

What else he might spill remains to be seen.

And while there are those who will point at the cost and claim it as reason to stop the investigation NOW, well, if you’re not also complaining about Trump’s many golf resort weekends, given that there have been multiple reports stating that he’s on track to spend in just his first year what Obama spent on vacations for his entire 8-year term, then I’d say you’re being a bit of a hypocrite.

Besides, things just got interesting, right?
