Here’s a switch: A new poll by Politico/Morning Consult is delivering some good news for President Trump, rather than the usual, low performance scores.

According to the new poll, an immigration bill that was introduced by Senators Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.), and endorsed by Trump, has strong approval among voters.

The merit-based plan has 60 percent approval, for allowing English-speaking immigrants with college degrees to enter the nation.

More:

Sixty-two percent of voters said that whether a person speaks English should be a factor in deciding if they should be allowed to legally immigrate to the U.S., according to the poll.

Fifty-eight percent of respondents said that they generally support limiting the number of refugees who can gain permanent residency in the U.S.

A plurality of voters supports cutting immigration in half over the next decade, with the poll finding 48 percent of respondents supporting the cuts, compared to 39 percent who oppose it.

Forty-five percent of voters support ending the ability for U.S. citizens to allow family members to enter the country in what was described as “unlimited family chain migration,” compared to 39 percent who support keeping it in place.

Those are all pretty substantial numbers, and all appear to be supportive of the president signing off on a bill that more specifically filters the flow of legal immigration.

The poll also cited 66 percent who believe legal immigrants strengthen our nation through their talents and hard work, as opposed to 20 percent who bemoan the loss of jobs, housing, and healthcare.

This poll utilized a fairly substantial sampling. There were 1,992 registered voters responding. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percent.
