Kushner Lawyer Stepping Away From Russia Probe

As things grow, evolve, and expand with the Russia probe, Trump son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, is saying goodbye to his attorney, Jamie Gorelick.

Well, not completely.

Gorelick, the Clinton donor and likely choice to be Attorney General, had Hillary Clinton won the election, is taking her hands off the Russia probe, and instead, will be handling issues of ethics, financial disclosures, and security issues for Kushner.

Abbe Lowell, a Washington criminal defense attorney, will now be representing Kushner in all things Russia-related.

Gorelick actually has legitimate reasons for stepping aside.

In a statement to the National Law Journal, Gorelick said that her firm advised Kushner to determine whether she should continue representing Kushner after her former law partner, Bob Mueller, left her firm to form the Justice Department’s special counsel office.

“As you may recall, and as we have stated, once Bob Mueller and three of our partners left the firm to form the Special Counsel’s Office, we advised Mr. Kushner to get independent legal advice whether to continue with us as counsel,” Gorelick said in an email Friday.

“As [a] result of this process, Abbe is now responsible for the Russia-related inquiries.”

I can see how that could raise some concerns.

This is just the latest in legal staff maneuvering in the Trump camp.

As posted earlier, President Trump has signed up Ty Cobb to serve as counsel over all things Russia, and act as the lead for all counsel in the investigation.
