Kid Rock for Senate? Maybe Not

Did you catch all the talk about Kid Rock running for the Senate on Wednesday?

Given the talk about pro-wrestler Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s possible 2020 run, and the fact that we now have a B-list celebrity/reality TV huckster as president, Senator Kid or Senator Rock doesn’t seem that far off base.

Well, those of us who are past ready to abandon the Cult of Personality and get back to sane governance likely have at least one small victory.

The buzz about a Kid Rock Senate run was probably just a publicity stunt.

According to Crain’s Detroit Business, Rock filed two trademarks in May for “Kid Rock’s Made in Detroit Bar & Grill,” which are expected to open in Little Caesar’s Arena in downtown Detroit. The arena will open as the home of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings for the 2017-18 season.

It all began with a tweet from the artist, also with a yard sign reading “Kid Rock for Senate.” It touted a website, KidRockforSenate.com, which opens to a picture of Kid Rock sitting in a chair, and the words, “Are you scared?”

Nope. Not scared.

Am I sick of our government being treated like a stepping stone for bigger ratings or as a way to promote albums, new business ventures, or new TV shows/movies?

Yes. I’m absolutely sick of that.
