Well, Rep. Jason Chaffetz hasn’t retired yet, and apparently, he’s still very much in the game, gimpy foot and all.
Chaffetz said on Wednesday that he has requested that a Department of Justice inspector general who is looking into actions by the FBI, leading up to the 2016 election to also investigate the firing of James Comey.
“I request that you expand the scope of your office’s ongoing review of allegations regarding certain actions by the Department of Justice and the FBI in advance of the 2016 election to include the facts and circumstances surrounding the removal of Director Comey,” Chaffetz wrote in a letter to Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
Chaffetz has made the request in his capacity as House Oversight Committee chairman.
“You separately stated ‘if circumstances warrant, the OIG will consider including other issues that may arise during the course of the review.’ The recommendation to remove Comey indeed warrants such consideration,” Chaffetz added in his letter to Horowitz.
The Utah congressman is one of a growing number of Republicans who have expressed varying degrees of concern over the president’s decision to fire the head of the FBI in the middle of an investigation.
