With information in the investigation still piling up, Americans were polled by ABC News/Washington Post as to their attitudes about Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Specifically, they were asked if there was Russian interference, at all, and if they believed the Trump team colluded with them.

According to the poll released Wednesday morning, the majority of Americans polled – 56 percent – believe Russia did attempt to influence the election. Also, 39 percent believe Trump’s aides or associates were actively involved in helping them.

When broken down to the partisan elements, as tends to always be the case, there was a pretty sharp divide.

The poll found 60 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents believe Trump’s campaign helped Russia influence the November election, while just 18 percent of Republican-leaning voters believe there was collusion among Trump aides and Russian officials.

The poll also found 72 percent of Hillary Clinton voters believe the Trump campaign assisted Russia in meddling efforts.

Because of course they do.

I’m actually shocked that number isn’t much higher.

The poll also asked respondents if they felt investigators could be fair in carrying out their duty to get answers about Russian interference.

The response was lukewarm, at best.

Only 41 percent of Democrats or independents who lean Democrat believe investigators will give a fair effort in finding the truth.

On the other side, 46 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independent voters have confidence in the fairness of how the investigation is carried out.

This poll was conducted from April 17 to April 20, by phone, with 1,004 Americans interviewed. It has a 3.5 percent margin of error.
