Cue loyalists to loudly protest, asking where the GAO were when it came to former President Obama’s golf trips and family vacays.
Yeah. Principle suggests you should be concerned, no matter who might be in that office.
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has taken up the concerns of Democrats, who want to know about costs and conduct of Trump using his Florida golf club, Mar-a-Lago, as “the southern White House,” to use Trump’s term.
Last month, multiple Democratic lawmakers expressed concern that the president mishandled classified information after photos surfaced showing Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reviewing photos of North Korea’s nuclear program at Mar-a-Lago. The White House has denied that classified documents were present while Trump talked with Abe in the club’s guest-filled dining room.
In a February letter, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and Democratic Sens. Tom Udall(N.M.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.) asked the GAO to investigate whether Trump may have violated security protocol.
Yes. It’s the usual, liberal suspects, but if the shoe were on the other foot, the arguments would be the same.
The agency will also examine whether Trump kept the pledge he made before taking office to donate to the Treasury any profits Trump hotels make from foreign agents or governments.
I’m interested in knowing that, myself. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
The facts are, President Trump has spent nearly every weekend golfing and socializing at one of his swank clubs, even during the stressful weeks leading up to the aborted vote on the Obamacare replacement bill.
There have been multiple social media posts by members at Trump’s club, prompting questions of how secure he is, as he tries to hang on to the life he had before the presidency.
Udall also introduced legislation on Friday that would require the Trump administration to make public the logs of people who met with Trump at his Florida resort and other locations.
Except they don’t keep logs, according to the White House.
This was to be expected. You had to know it was coming.
President Trump has not seemed overly willing to be about the thankless, mundane tasks of being the Commander-in-Chief. His weekly trips to Mar-a-Lago are reaching the overkill stage. He’s only been president for a very short time and seems bored and disinterested in anything that doesn’t go his way the first time around, or that can’t be easily handled with an executive order.
At this rate, Trump will easily outpace Obama, in terms of time spent on the golf course, and if anyone ever had a problem with Obama’s outings, but are making excuses for Trump now, you need to check your partisan hackery.
