I’m going to say this is a bit of a stretch, Bill.
So by now, everyone has heard about the Milo Yiannopoulos video (probably even seen it), heard him suggest that sex between teen boys and adult males can be beneficial, and has chosen a side (usually based on Trump loyalty, as Milo is an outspoken, alt-right Trump supporter).
It has caused quite a stir since the weekend, and according to HBO’s Bill Maher, you have him to thank for it all.
To give the background, last week Yiannopoulos appeared on Maher’s program, causing a major stink among liberal circles – Maher’s base – who were outraged that he was giving the Breitbart editor a forum.
By all accounts, the interview was cordial, and Maher took quite a bit of heat from his fans.
“What I think people saw was an emotionally needy Ann Coulter wannabe, trying to make a buck off of the left’s propensity for outrage,” Maher said in an interview with The New York Times. “And by the end of the weekend, by dinnertime Monday, he’s dropped as a speaker at CPAC. Then he’s dropped by Breitbart, and his book deal falls through.”
“As I say, sunlight is the best disinfectant. You’re welcome.”
Maher apparently isn’t very familiar with Yiannopoulos. Nothing said on his program was worse than anything Yiannopoulos has said in the past. It was a January 2016 video, available on YouTube, but posted to social media by the Reagan Battalion, a conservative blogger, that led to the outrage.
Somebody check Maher’s ratings. For him to take credit for this is ridiculous.
As for Yiannopoulos:
In announcing his resignation from Breitbart on Tuesday, Yiannopoulos indicated that he will be starting his own independent media company, which he says will focus on “entertainment and education.”
Why not?
We can never have enough TMZ or Perez Hiltons in the world.
