Something tells me they don’t have a really firm grasp on what the role of the presidency is in government.
Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, addressed the concerns of Trump remaining as executive producer of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” even after he takes office.
“He’s a very transparent guy. Everyone can see what he’s doing, and the fact is that he is conferring with all types of experts who tell him what he can do and not do as President of the United States,” Conway, a top Trump adviser and his former campaign manager, said on CNN’s “New Day.” “If this is one of the approved activities, then perhaps he will consider staying on.”
Trump’s agreement with the show, first reported by Variety and confirmed by sources at NBC and the Trump campaign, means the president will have an interest in a show aired by a media company that also reports on his presidency — a major conflict of interest for the network.
Conflict of interest.
Conway went on to point out that Obama spent hours on the golf course, as president.
“Were we so concerned about the hours and hours and hours spent on the golf course of the current president? I mean presidents have a right to do things in their spare time, in their leisure time,” Conway argued.
Yeah, actually, we were concerned about it, and many spoke out about it.
More “Hated it from Obama. Love it from Trump.”
Alisyn Camerota pointed out that Conway, herself, had complained about Obama’s golfing.
Conway went on to say it seemed there was a lot of time to indulge in leisurely activity, judging by Obama’s record, and that for Trump, work was leisure.
While it may be true that no president is on the job, 24/7, and there are moments for relaxing, we have to believe those moments are few, and conflict of interests aside, the issues the nation is faced with at this time may prove too daunting to allow a President Trump much flexibility.
