Oh, Newt.

Sometimes, you really have to wonder what the going price on a soul is.

Speaking on Fox News Business on Thursday morning, the former Speaker of the House and current Trump surrogate chimed in on a New York Times report that highlighted new allegations against the GOP nominee.

“When The New York Times goes back over 30 years to find somebody who had a bad airplane flight … that’s sincere,” the top Trump surrogate told Fox Business Network on Thursday.

In a New York Times report on Wednesday, 74-year-old Jessica Leeds recalled sitting next to the real estate mogul in first class on a flight to New York more than three decades ago. During the flight, Leeds said Trump lifted the armrest, grabbing her breasts and trying to put his hand up her skirt, she said.

For his part, Trump denies that there is any truth to the reports and has threatened to sue the Times for libel.

He also claims to have proof that the stories are false. That remains to be seen.

Gingrich has suggested that Trump should focus more on driving home the point about Hillary Clinton’s myriad scandals, rather than obsessing over GOP leadership who can no longer openly support him, or the issues from his past that threaten to bring him down.

However, if the brief history of this election cycle has shown us anything, Trump will not take good counsel and will plant his feet on a battlefield that has already been lost, proclaiming himself the winner, even as his poll numbers tank.

With only a month to go, changing Trump to a legitimate candidate is pretty much not going to happen.
