In other words, even Trump doesn’t believe the manure he’s spreading.

In a Thursday night interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, the Manhattan fraud alluded to the fact that he knew the promises he made in his immigration rant were promises that likely couldn’t be kept, at least, not in the manner he suggested.

“We’re going to get rid of all the bad players that are here. The gang members, the gang leaders, the drug dealers, all of the cartel people we’re going to get them out of our country because they are causing tremendous damage and crime and other things and getting the drugs spread all over the place,” the Republican nominee said during the interview. “They’ll be gone. After that takes place, which will be a process and it won’t go that quickly, but it’s going to go as quickly as any human being can do it.”

He’s right that it’s going to be a process. Does he begin by releasing the murderers and drug dealers from U.S. prisons?

Then what? Do we deposit them nicely on the south side of the border and tell them not to come back (because that has proven to work so well)?

Is there a deal made with the Mexican government to take their prisoners and house them in their jails? That would require negotiations and agreement on Mexico’s part, and given that Trump has made no serious efforts (including this week’s photo op trip) to keep a cordial relationship with our southern neighbors, that will not be a simple or expedient process.

Then, of course, there’s the matter of not all of the immigrants are from Mexico. Some are from Honduras, Guatemala, and various European and African nations, as well.

This is an issue that’s far too complicated for a reality TV star to take time to sift through, and he has shown no interest in listening to advisers who are better at it than him, either. In fact, he’s shown no real interest in anything other than the crowds, cameras, and attention.

Trump did discuss the possibility of illegals reentering the country, once deported.

“After that takes place, we are going to sit back, we’re going to assess the situation, we’re going to see where we are because we will have people in the country that have come in the country illegally,” Trump said. “We’re going to sit back, we’re going to assess the situation, we’re going to make a decision at that time. I want to see, before we do anything further, I want to see how it shapes up when we have strong, impenetrable borders. I think we are getting really tremendous reviews on the plan.”

Trump has created great confusion with his talk on immigration, after seeming to moderate his talk on his signature campaign issue in recent weeks.

Those reviews are coming from Trump’s sycophants and clingers. He refuses to listen to anyone else or consider any rational or reasoned criticisms.

Trump then offered up another eyebrow-raising comment on Thursday morning, telling conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham about his latest immigration plan: “I think you’re going to see there’s really quite a bit of softening.”

Double talk. Word salad. Obfuscation.

The thing is, nobody knows what Trump will do. Not even Trump.

The most likely scenario, should Trump manage to pull off a win in November is that he’ll enter the office and do nothing about the border, as have countless presidents before him, and everything else in the nation will be in chaos, including relations with our allies, the economy, and the rule of law.

By then, it will be too late.
