Trump's Big Immigration Speech Postponed for "Fine Tuning"

My guess: He needs time to make his amnesty push more appealing to the Nationalists who rallied to the Trump train specifically because of his demonization of “other.”

Donald Trump is postponing a major immigration speech he was set to deliver Thursday in Colorado as his campaign continues to fine-tune his immigration policy.

The decision came after Trump, whose hardline immigration policies appealed to many GOP primary voters, met Saturday with his Hispanic advisory council and said in an interview Monday morning that he wants to “come up with a really fair, but firm” immigration policy.

While he’s denying that what he’s now proposing is a flip-flop, it would seem that going from a months-long tirade that conjured up visions of loading immigrants into boxcars and shipping them off behind that mythical wall, to suggesting legal status for 11 million who are here illegally – is a pretty substantial flip-flop.

Trump’s new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, explained the decision to postpone the speech in an interview on “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday, suggesting she was still grappling with decisions made before she took the reins of the campaign.

“We inherited this schedule,” Conway said — though it was Conway herself who labeled this week “immigration week” for the campaign in an interview with CNN last Thursday. She added, “Although I think it’s a great idea to have that kind of speech and certainly put together full plans, immigration is such a complex issue and Mr. Trump has been taking the counsel of many different people on this.”

Trump also said in response to a question that he would not put undocumented immigrants in detention centers.

I have no doubt that that last part is true. He has no more intention of putting immigrants in detention centers than he has ever had of deporting them.

While Team Trump “fine tunes” the message (read: Determines the best way to make his loyal Trumpidian cultists feel good about being duped), expect to see more postponements.
