Well, this is rather delicious.
News organizations are requesting that the New York Supreme Court unseal records from Donald Trump’s 1990 divorce with Ivana Trump in an effort to determine whether the Republican nominee was accused of sexual assault by his ex-wife.
The outlets, which include The New York Times and USA Today parent company Gannett, argue that releasing the records would “resolve an ongoing campaign controversy” over whether, during the separation proceedings, Ivana alleged that sexual assault had occurred in their high-profile 14-year marriage.
I’m sure these outlets simply want to resolve an ongoing campaign controversy.
I’m more sure they want to crucify Trump with the female vote.
It’s no secret that mainstream media is no friend to conservatives or Republicans. Neither is Trump, for that matter, but he’s the nominee this go around, by some unfathomable turn of national idiocy, therefore, he’s the oh-so-ripe target for media attacks.
Trump’s multiple adulteries and failed businesses make him an easy target, but finding that he’s also a domestic abuser?
Liberal media GOLD!
What we do know is that the divorce from his first wife was granted on grounds of “cruel and unusual treatment.” So what constitutes cruel and unusual treatment in a marriage? The adultery with Marla Maples, Trump’s second wife, would probably be listed as just that: adultery, so what did he do?
The Daily Beast… not exactly a Republican-friendly outlet… released a report in September 2015 that said Trump was accused by Ivana Trump of spousal rape. Since that time, both Trump and his first wife have denied that report and maintain that they are great friends.
In fact, Ivana Trump said that what was actually said in her divorce proceedings was that it “felt like rape,” not that it was rape.
And I don’t know how to take that.
According to USA Today, the news outlets argue that records of Trump’s divorce “have become directly relevant to the issues being debated in the hotly contested presidential campaign” and that “it would be deeply incongruous to American democracy to bar the public from seeing the official court records pertaining directly to the credibility and character of a person they must soon decide whether to elect as their president.”
I get what they’re trying to do, but let’s be honest: Trump hasn’t displayed the kind of credibility or character anyone should want to elect as president, but he still was pushed on us by the people, so I doubt a spousal rape accusation that is close to three decades in the past will be enough to sway anybody’s mind, one way or another.
Nice try, though. Why don’t you mainstream media guys take a break? Trump is tossing this election to the Democrats all on his own.
