Donald Trump has finally managed to wrangle an endorsement from one of the members of the Bush family.
Sort of.
George P. Bush, son of former Trump rival, Jeb Bush, and current Texas Land Commissioner, stepped forward on Saturday to utter a few words on behalf of party unity.
“From Team Bush, it’s a bitter pill to swallow, but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton,” Bush said, according to video provided by someone in the audience.
Bush was Saturday speaking as the Texas GOP’s victory chairman, responsible for overseeing the party’s statewide campaign in November, the Texas Tribune reports. He had previously been criticized for taking the role without endorsing Trump.
Some would say that this sudden jump out of line with the silence that has been maintained by more prominent members of the family has more to do with securing his own political future than it does with any present concerns for the race.
That is one that will be left up to the Texas voters, but until then, you can watch the video of his comments for yourself.
Was this a full endorsement, or a bit of political sidewinding?
