So much for the power of a Trump endorsement.

As the face of the GOP, Trump’s first endorsement was for North Carolina Representative Renee Ellmers. It did not have the intended effect, as Ellmers lost her seat in Congress on Tuesday to challenger Greg Holding.

She did not just lose by a little – she lost by a lot. At the time of the writing of this article, Holding has over 50%. Ellmers might well finish third behind Greg Bannon in this race, with less than 25%.

Ellmers was one of the Tea Party darlings of 2010, but has since betrayed her conservative roots to become one of the more liberal “Republicans” in Congress.

“The Susan B. Anthony List, a prominent anti-abortion group, actively campaigned against Ellmers during the primary.

The group was upset that Ellmers upended a House vote last year to ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Ellmers helped stage a rebellion against the bill, saying it should be softened so that rape victims exempted from the 20-week ban would face fewer obstacles in getting an abortion.”

Ellmers objected to a portion of the bill that said rape victims were to report the crime. The group supported the revision, but Ellmers’ public objection coincided with the annual March for Life event and left pro-lifers less than thrilled with the congresswoman.

“’At that point there could not have been a more important moment of unity and strength for the movement, when she pulled the rug out from under us,’ Susan B. Anthonly List President Marjorie Dannenfelser recently told the Washington Examiner.

SBA wasn’t the only key conservative group to have opposed Ellmers. Club for Growth also pushed to oust her.”

Elmers voted to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank, as well as for an omnibus spending bill.

She is no conservative.

Conservative Review has given Ellmers an “F” liberty score.

Perhaps this will be a warning for those who betray their base. Your seats are not safe.
