From the diaries by Erick
It may not seem like it, but there is an election for United States Senator around the corner. Yes, its true. The election for Ted Kennedy’s old seat is speeding ahead.
While the Democrats are embroiled in a heated primary, Republican candidate Scott Brown is quietly running a solid campaign. In most states, Brown would be crushing his fumbling liberal opponents. But this is Massachusetts.
However, Democratic enthusiasm is in the dumps, while Republican enthusiasm is up. And there is a wild card. The election is being held in January, when many “snowbirds”, retirees with winter homes elsewhere, are gone; many college students are away on break; and the winter weather is too nasty for much of the lazy liberal base to get out and vote.
Scott Brown may be the best candidate you never heard of. Most states would be lucky to recruit a candidate of his caliber. Even when profiled by the wretched Boston Globe, Brown came across well:
Scott Brown is a good guy, a good candidate and a decent Republican. He would also be a ‘no’ vote on the health care bill and cap and tax and that is good enough for me. It should be good enough for you.
This holiday season, do you believe in miracles? If you do, support Scott Brown. If you can’t do anything else, at least pray for snow in Boston on January 19th – lots of it.

The_Rebel (Diary) Saturday, November 28th at 10:25PM EST (link)He is just the candidate who could fly under the radar and pull this off, blizzard or not. The irony would be that a win in this special election would propel him to the U.S. Senate in the same manner in which he came to the Massachusetts State Senate. He also won that seat by a special election in March of 2004.
He’s been in the National Guard for about 30 years, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel in the JAG Corps. He’s been an outspoken supporter of many veterans’ causes. And he is always fighting for the interests of small business, looking for ways to stimulate the economy and bring more jobs to the state.
I seem to remember a 20 inch snowfall on January 19th in 1978, the year of the Blizzard of ’78. Maybe we can have a repeat. In any case, Scott Brown will be getting my vote that day. I love snow.
Oh that would be too cool
itrytobenice (Diary) Saturday, November 28th at 10:45PM EST (link)And truly, if MA sent someone like that to the Senate, I might give up a small measure of my contempt for them.

Let’s eat, Grandma.
It would TRULY be a miracle and I will be praying....
JadedByPolitics (Diary) Saturday, November 28th at 11:07PM EST (link)he is elected because if that Obamacare has not been voted on and a Republican WINS the state of MA in January that bill will DIE!!!
This is just as it was in NJ and VA a DIRECT message to The Idiot that We The People DO NOT want the government in our healthcare EVER! I pray for the good people of MA to do the RIGHT thing for once in their lifetimes.

I say lets give him our support.
I will read more on him and reserve the right to change my mind.
If he is the real deal, lets get behind him.
Don’t think 2012 just yet,
and this could be a warmup for 2010.
Tomorrow will get here, but we have today at hand.
They say Republicans are for the rich, Democrats are for the poor.
If they need more voters,
then they have to make more of who they are for.
We are there in the various Tea Party groups, leaderless, but not rudderless.

Miracles
pirate55 (Diary) Sunday, November 29th at 9:13AM EST (link)I cling to my belief in “miracles” as they indeed do occur. Simply put, “miracles” are unexplainable and it would be wonderful to see a Republican sitting in the late Senator Kennedy’s seat. Miracles are good things and quite different from unexplainable occurrences such as current research on climate change and dealing with thugs which we had politely called “terrorists” and who we are now to believe are the cause of “man made disasters”. It is important to strongly support Scott Brown. It is important to pursue a national “miracle”.
Scott Brown
CarolT (Diary) Sunday, November 29th at 1:44PM EST (link)I live in MA and am praying he pulls it off. None of the dems are as impressive as Scott is. I get polling data from Karl Rove on senate races, I emailed him Friday night asking him why he had not included MA. He responded that Brown is quite in an impressive candidate but he had no good data on this on the head to head race and would add when available.
Pray for us here in MA, I never voted for any of them.
How delicious!
richterm Sunday, November 29th at 6:45PM EST (link)How wonderful would it be to put a Republican in Kennedy’s old seat? That alone would make the heads of the losers at DU and Kos explode.
One sided opinion
1stRichard (Diary) Sunday, November 29th at 8:50PM EST (link)I am deep behind enemy lines in the Happy Valley of W/Mass and many consider it a lost cause out this way. However, there is hope, with the local taxes here doubling about every ten years some of the moderate liberals are fed up with the taxes and spending. Combined with the unemployment/underemployment there is a growing anyone but sentiment growing. But there are some negative for Brown in that he has two points against him in the conservative grassroots out this way and needs to clarify his position a bit better. I was a bit disappointed with the strategy meeting out this way. The fist was called off over possible liberal retaliation and yes, it is that bad out this way. When I attended the other strategy meeting, I found it a bit embarrassing that I was the only one there with copies of his issues page. Furthermore, attendance seemed a bit low. The strategy presented at this meeting may be good however being a don’t put all your eggs in one basket type of person I have my reservations. I am the local 9|12 czar of information here and I am fairly well connected to the grassroots out here and local opinions. There is a good chance of Brown winning this election but he is going to need much more help, at least on this side of the state.
The only miracle needed would be some national help for Brown to win.
The Cosmo pictures notwithstanding...
Mike (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 4:34PM EST (link)…he seems like a good guy. I like my candidates to be a little more live-wire than that, but maybe that will play well in Taxachussetts…
Either way, it would give me a near heart-attack of mirth and joy to see a Republican pick off that seat. Dear lord, I would laugh so hard
Brown vs Pagliuca
alpinejager (Diary) Tuesday, December 1st at 11:34AM EST (link)is what it will come down to. i’m way behind enemy lines in the people’s democratic republic of new-ireland. Pagliuca is spending a fortune just on the dim primary, and he has deep pockets. He is highlighting the fact that he’ll be the “60th vote for healtcare.” any poll data on how that hits the likely voters here?
Really?
redtillimdead (Diary) Wednesday, December 2nd at 7:41PM EST (link)I now think it will be Brown vs Capuano. I’m hoping for a Khazei upset though. He’d be the easiest to beat. At this point, I was thinking Pags would be in 4th place. I rank the toughness of the competition for us (with 1 being the hardest to beat) as-
4. Alan Khazei
3. Michael Capuano
2. Steven Pagliuca
1. Martha Coakely
