If you read that article, what happened to Ventura while he was at Harvard is really tragic:

“To me, a politician is someone who makes a career out of getting elected,” he says. “I don’t like them, because I think they’re the problem, not the solution. The moment they make a career out of getting elected, they’re no longer in public service, but in self-service. How can someone who’s been elected for 30 years know what’s going on in the private sector, if they don’t live it?”

Well, he didn't dare to criticize Ted Kennedy while he was there, as far as I know, and he endorsed his hand-picked Junior Senator for President. So that's what happens when people who say things like that go to Harvard.

And this is one of the reasons John McCain must *never* be the Republican nominee for President again:

His campaign was a case study in how to destroy your VP pick, by choosing her at the last possible minute out of desperation.

The lesson Palin learned, which I'm sure she'd be happy to tell people at Harvard (and should) is this: "Never accept an invitation to a long night from an older man who is unsure of his convictions but offers you something really special."

Barack Obama got to serve his time in the U.S. Senate under the tutelage of Joe Biden before he announced his Presidential run (as though anyone from Chicago didn't know he was going to, but that's another story.) He was impeccably groomed. For more than 6 years prior to his announcement, Barack Obama was tutored in How to Become the President.

Sarah Palin had a few weeks to get up to speed on how to become McCain's VP.

I find it interesting that Noonan is now at Harvard. That's where Jesse Ventura was a Fellow after his stint as Governor in Minnesota. At the time, I thought Harvard brought him to the Kennedy School to satisfy two interrelated objectives:

1) Observe him carefully, like Piltdown Man, or the Missing Link
2) Get him to endorse John Kerry

Both of which happened.

Noonan will probably endorse whoever is running for President on the Democratic ticket next. Let's see whether she's smarter than Jesse "I Ain't Got Time To Bleed" Ventura.

As a Northeastern Republican who writes for the Wall Street Journal, she's also a female...who is wealthy, and who lives in the Northeast. This means that almost all of her gal-pals are liberals to the core. She dislikes Sarah Palin because of the cultural imperatives: Noonan doesn't want to lose her gal-pals.

It's simple.

Along with many other critics, Noonan is threatened by the fact the Ms. Palin is in essence just a regular woman who has succeeded on the basis of her beliefs and perseverance. She has truly changed the paradigm back from "one who must conform" to "one who must believe in themselves and traditional values".

For years people such as Ms. Noonan have tried to over intellectualize the role of women in our society with a goals of making them "equal" to men. But what does equal mean and who ever thought they were not in the first place? Perhaps it was just perceptions and the value associated with an already signficant contribution women were making to our society which needed to be changed? Such thought probably never occurred to Ms. Noonan.
Yet she and her liege have spent a generation making women feel inferior if in someway they were not complicit with their ill advised contra-intellectual endeavors grounded in an effort to destroy the traditional family in search of some greater calling. Rhetorically, what greater calling could there be?

The philosophical- "educated" view of Ms. Noonan has driven women away from traditional roles such as being the "glue" which holds a family together. She epitomizes a lost generation of mothers who either thought they had to abandon traditional family values and roles or sacrifice moral standards to compete in the so-called" man's world. In the process many lost their uniqueness in a quest to be something they could never be. How destructive has that been to our society?

Then along comes Ms. Palin, who has been all things- a mother, nurturer for her children, moral compass, center for her family with no compunctions about physically pursuing what she felt was right or contributory to her family- a "soccer mom" with guts and drive. Someone who had the courage to be a mother to her family and at the same time preserve their future and American traditions through whatever means necessary. A governor and mother who pursued what was right no matter where it led.

Ms. Noonan has spent her whole life writing about philosophical exploitations based on theory and pointless intellectual explorations- a cause in search of meaning. Ms. Palin has spent her entire life preserving, building and engaged in physical accomplishment- showing others how it's done without the so-called requisite transformation and philosophical abandonment. No wonder Ms. Noonan loathes her.

A loan only creates money equal to the amount not covered by the fractional reserve held by the bank. Furthermore this money is part of the money I spoke about when I said the government was "printing" more money.

At any rate, some inflation during a time of expansion is to be expected. People like Volcker and the present Fed chairman have an inordinate fear of inflation that has caused them to follow severe anti-inflationary programs that have hurt many people.

This is why I am certain that any recovery we have will be short lived because as soon as there a pick up in the economy inflation will return big time because we have so devalued the dollar.

Then Bernanke will go on an orgy of inflation fighting and strangle the recovery. Unless he succumbs to the political interests of the administration. Which might be worse since it would be in their interest to go with high inflation so they can pay off some of their incredible debt.

We are screwed any way it goes.

Low interest rates DO NOT cause the currency to lose value. Currencies lose value through excessive money creation and excessive public debt.

Every bank loan creates dollars in the economy in an amount equal to that dispersed by the loan. Rock bottom interest rates can't but help distort and exacerbate the other factors that go into an increasing money supply.

And I say the above without going into whether I think increasing the money supply at the time was a good or bad thing.

He reportedly said "You can go to Harvard, and it doesn't mean a damn thing"

The elder Kennedy was so put off by Harvard's snobbery that he was determined to get rich enough to FORCE the Brahmins to notice him.

His descendants, enriched by his efforts, morphed into what he detested.

And now Noonan gets the treatment. Poetic justice!

Volcker nearly destroyed the country in an effort to fight inflation that was not primarily caused by monetary policy, but by excessive debt and money printing.

Greenspan followed a loose monetary policy perhaps for a little too long, but the crash was not caused by that, it was a classic speculative bubble. It was exacerbated by the government promoting bad low income loans and by the switch to mark to market accounting.

Low interest rates DO NOT cause the currency to lose value. Currencies lose value through excessive money creation and excessive public debt.

I suggest you read two books. Basic Economics, and Advanced Economics by Dr. Thomas Sowell

Reagan didn't get more done.
For once America didn't go with the RINO choice and we still had a bunch of RINO's in the White House.
The worse thing is the way so many on the right then allow these people who were never conservative to be at least partially responsible for defining what a conservative is.

How many Reaganites are around today and still actual true conservatives?

Why do we allow a bunch of NE loser RINO's to have any say in defining conservatism? They can rarely turn their loser philosophies into victories in their home states. It is 30 years past time to send the Rockefeller wing packing. They can join the Jay Rockefeller far left wing of the Democrat party instead.

The pillars of the return of US fiscal responsibility.

You have every reason to thank Paul Volcker.

Not Alan Greenspan, Andrea Mitchell's husband though,

his failure to raise interest rates enough from 2004 to 2007 did the real damage.

Also GW's Treasury Secretaries were lamoids until Hank Paulson. Treasury Secretary should be supporting the price of the dollar by buying them and taking them out of circulation.

Low interest rates overheated the economy. Low interest rates cause the Dollar to decline in value, (no Treasury Sec buying them), commodity prices exploded from 2004 to 2007 particulary oil, overheated the US economy.

Fairleigh Dickenson University is where Peggy Noonan attended college.

She is in the hall of distinguished alumni listed as an author.

No mention of being a speechwriter for President Reagan.

Democrats owned everything for decades. Its actually tougher to build coalitons as a majority party. The GOP sailed in 1980 and 1994 for the same reasons the Dems did in 2006. Everyone was united against something and not for something. I'm sure many soft, selfish and strange conservatives attached themsleves to Reagan. And I think Noonan is all three; soft, selfish and strange.

Former Fed Chief Volcker is sometimes linked with Reagan as the man who broke the back of Carter's stagflation.

In fact, he worked behind the scenes to sabotage and hinder as much of Reagan's agenda as he could, causing the recovery from Carter's 1970's malaise to take longer than it should have.

Always recall that whenever you hear Volcker being given credit: Volcker was appointed by Carter, and is a life-long Dem.

Palin was only one of the last in a long line of people treated so by Noonan. Fred comes to mind as another so treated nor was Noonan alone in piling on.

All of them seem to think appearance equals substance. That's how we got TheWon. He's fairly good looking for a politician, he speaks well as long as his teleprompter is handy to feed him the words. But inside where it counts, there's nothing of any merit.

These idiots who surrounded Reagan did so as sycophants with out EVER getting the true essence of his Conservative policies. They were no better then the leeches who glom onto a movie star which is what they did. I would have to say that with friends like Noonan, Parker etc who needs enemies..heh!

I have real hope (how sad is it that you have to qualify the word HOPE now?) that Noonan gets SCREAMED at and RUSHED at with blood on their hands by the little idiots that infest any and all colleges!
