Gates-Crowley: Rep. McCotter to Introduce Resolution Condemning Obama

Interesting development.

I’m not sure if its overkill. But Republicans have the moral high ground and it is the right thing to do. It is becoming obvious to everyone that examines the record that it was Henry Louis Gates Jr. who acted like the racist. It is also becoming evident that Obama abused his power by using the office of the presidency to support his race obsessed friend and denigrate a well respected, decorated police officer on national television.

Tactically, Obama’s waning popularity is a boon to Republican efforts to stop the health care bill and cap and tax. As Obama’s popularity withers, so does his influence from the bully pulpit. I give McCotter kudos for having some guts and being a fighter. I’m not sure if the boat has already sailed though. Obama’s “regrets” and his personal phone call to Sgt. Crowley may have diffused the outrage.

Personally, I just love anything that makes Obama look like a jackass.

The draft resolution:

House Resolution

Whereas on July 16, 2009, Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley responded to a 911 call from a neighbor of Harvard University Professor Henry Louis (“Skip”) Gates, Jr. about a suspected break-in in progress at his residence, which had been broken into on a prior occasion;

Whereas on July 22, 2009, in responding to a question during a White House press conference President Barack Obama stated: “Skip Gates is a friend, so I may be a little biased here. I don’t know all of the facts involved in this local police response incident”;

Whereas President Obama proceeded to state Sergeant Crowley “acted stupidly” for arresting Professor Gates on charges of disorderly conduct;

Whereas, as a former Constitutional Law Professor, President Obama well understands that all Americans are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and their actions should not be prejudged prior to being fully and fairly judged by an appropriate and objective authority after due process;

Whereas, President Obama’s nationally televised remarks may likely detrimentally influence the full and fair judgment by an appropriate and objective authority after due process regarding this local police response incident and, thereby, impair Sergeant Crowley’s legal and professional standing in relation to said incident; and

Whereas, President Obama appeared at a daily White House Press briefing on July 24, 2009 to address his denouncement of Sergeant Crowley and stated: “I could have calibrated those words differently” but “I continue to believe, based on what I have heard, that there was an overreaction in pulling Professor Gates out of his home to the station.”

Whereas, President Obama’s refusal to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Sergeant Crowley and, instead, reiterate his accusation impugning Sergeant Crowley’s professional conduct in the performance of his duties;

Now therefore be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

Calls upon President Obama to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley for having unfairly impugned and prejudged his professional conduct in this local police response incident.

Well, he hasn't really apologized...

And why do we have to accept phony apologies? He said what he said, he meant it. The only reason why he is back peddling is because it was on national t.v. and the MSM can’t bury the story.

His mask is slipping. As people pull back the curtain they will see him for extremist ideologue he is. And that he sat in Rev. Wright’s church for 20yrs. because it was “music to his ears.”

I just dont know if the issue hit a saturation point. It’ll interesting to see how the police unions react.

People are still pissed.

21,000 facebook members is two days. God knows how many hits. Pretty impressive. Support Crowley:

And now Sergeant Crowley. I’m amazed how it is ordinary citizens who seem to take tougher stands on Obama than elected Republicans.

hold off

Personally, I would hold off on a resolution until the tapes are released. Obama has shown himself slick enough that Bill Clinton wouldn’t stick to him. I would hate for the resolution to backfire if the tapes don’t clearly show what happened.
Now personally, I think it went down like the officers said. And why is the president commenting on a local and frankly minor police incident? (I know the answer already…)

Thaddeus McCotter is on target to attack Nobama: and if the Republicans have any brains, they will consider McCotter for a national candidacy.

I'm glad the neighbor came out with this

People need to start understanding WHERE the racial tension that exists is actually coming from.

This is especially important now that Obama was prepped for the question as BK points out.

This was no slip of the tongue. All this from our “Words Matter” President.

Over/Under on Gibbs Resignation?

I say he won’t see the New Year as Michael Corleone said of Hyman Roth.

I see this whole administration as a bunch of babbling stumblebums but is there anyone worse than Gibbs? How many of his statements has he had to walk back and explain? I thought your communications director was supposed to be able to communicate effectively.

I saw Obama this morning and even he was having trouble reading the TOTUS, lol. Oh, there’s going to be some Change! allright.

Crowley Should Pass on White House Suds

Spartan4Life (Diary) Monday, July 27th at 10:41AM EST (link)

Obama and Gibbs are desperate for a dog and pony show to get this behind them. Unfortunately, Gates has already said that a coming together party at the White House would be about “racial profiling”.

Since that is not what this is about, Crowley shouldn’t go. He would be being used.

I don't think he should go either.

penguin2 (Diary) Monday, July 27th at 11:06AM EST (link)

But, I’m not sure of the protocol involved regarding personal invitations from the president, even one you have no affinity for. As he is a police officer, he has to be diplomatic about an invitation like that.

As you said “he would be being used.” Used in the context of their race meme: Obama, Gates, Rev. Wright, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, etc.
