Sarah Palin On The Today Show

This is probably just a comment, but this is a great clip worth sharing. Sarah Palin gave a great performance on The Today Show this morning. Matt Lauer is tough, but fair. It’s nice to see Sarah Palin on a level playing field.

The feud with David Letterman has received much attention. However, Lauer started the interview with questions about the Alaskan gas pipe line and the “lightweight” Palin knocked the issue out of the park. She looked strong, informed, and poised.

She also refused to relent on Letterman. She gave her most thoughtful, poignant and passionate response yet. She maintained her charm, even giving a shout out to flight attendants. And she never played the role of the victim, but instead gave a strong defense her daughters and drew attention to young women in general. She also called out the media double standard as applied to Obama’s family and hers.

An intelligent, tough and unapologetic performance. Pitch perfect.

Who woulda thought Palin can handle the media well. I’m glad she learned that the liberal media “sluts” are out to get her. All Reps should take notes and be prepared to respond to media combatants.

She did a great job in the interview

As you said, very tough and professional, and best of all, unapologetic about her view on the issue. I’m glad that she didn’t play the victim, as so many other Republicans have done. Thanks for posting!

I predicted the hypocrites at other networks would give Palin a chance

If Conan had said these things, you would never have seen Palin on The Today Show. Lauer is an ultra lib, but these tv people love hurting other networks even more than hurting Republicans, and that is saying something.

Capitalism may be tougher to kill than I expected.

She’s on with Wolf Blitzer tonight.

I’m starting to subscribe to the theory that we may see a break between the Democrats and the media on Palin. The Dems want nothing more than to mock and ridicule her into obscurity.

I think the media wants her to lose… eventually. But this early in the game, I think they care more about ratings and some in the media will start giving her credibility to gain access to her.

The prospect of a media war of words and a future election between Palin and Obama is too tantilizing and historic. It would be a ratings bonanza.

She pwned Matt Lauer.

And she did it while being poised and charming. she would not let him interupt her or cut her off.

Either outcome, damage Palin or damage Letterman, was a win for him.

Palin was flawless. Masterful.

But once Lauer realized he was beaten, he could just sit back and enjoy.

That's the Sarah Palin the country needs to get to know.

She did a great job, as did Mr. Lauer. No softballs and she hit everything. Some out of the park. That’s one tough woman! Thanks for posting this. I don’t watch Today.

of Sarah Palin. Yes, I like her, but there are others who might rise up who would be better candidates and better leaders. She has her problems and just because the left attacks her does not mean she doesn’t.

It is early days yet, let’s not just write her in automatically as our next candidate.

One thing to keep in mind is that while McCain/Palin played defense in 2008 (I’m not George Bush), the Republican candidate in 2012 will be able to attack Obama’s concrete failings, and not the hologram of the 2008 campaign.

Memories are short. If Palin serves as the fundraiser-in-chief for Republicans in 2009, then she’s serving our interests, and deserves the kudos this year.

She’s scoring points against Leftist perverts like Letterman which is always good. She’s also, as you point out, a money making machine for Republicans. I don’t know what her future holds, but right now she is a powerful force in the party and I am very happy to see her kicking the lib b@$tards’ a$$es.

will get the same exact treatment. People always talk about taking a stand. About showing guts. Yet, they ask it from politicians in untenable postions.
We do need to take a stand. There is a systemic, coordinated effort to undermine Palin. If we get wishy washy with them, we suck.

And this has nothing to do with 2012. This is conservatives not getting the culture war. They want to perpetuate identity politics. The fact that Palin is defies every stereotype of conservative women and intrigues working mothers, young women and families of people with disabilities scares the crap out of them.

There is a part of me that thinks Palin may be better off no running myself. We dont know where Obama and the Republicans will stand in 2012. Palin could never run for anything again and become the conservative Oprah and do more damage to liberal foundation than any Republican president could do.

Everyone’s see nteh clip by now. This is the “neutral” Yahoo’s take. Look at the pic and teh headline:

well I agree with that

kyle8 (Diary) Friday, June 12th at 5:23PM EST (link)

I would not mind seeing her in that roll. I am just wary that so many people seem to place their hopes in her, probably because there is a vacume of leadership right now.

I'm late to this post,

Uma Richie (Diary) Saturday, June 13th at 8:20AM EST (link)

but as I watched the clip this morning, I forgot all about being Republican. I don’t care what Gov. Palin’s role in the party is, but I want her speaking for me and my daughters as a woman.

I don’t believe in identity politics in general, but now I can see it making a difference if:
1. There is a superficial commonality (race, gender, etc.) between oneself and the candidate.
2. That commonality is or is perceived to be the basis of mistreatment or negative bias.
3. The candidate’s views are in sync with one’s own philosophy.

This has nothing to do with her as a candidate

She has improved greatly in handling the media. That means she has to ability to learn, something not all that common with Republican politicians.

A few more Republicans like Sarah Palin and the Cheneys, and there just might be some life left in the Republic.

(Very) slight correction...

azaeroprof (Diary) Sunday, June 14th at 12:15AM EST (link)

While I agree with your observation of her improving from, say, the Gibson and Couric interviews to this one, if you watch her pre-Veep selection interviews (CSPAN, Glenn Beck, CNBC are the most notable) you will see that the Lauer interview is more like the REAL Sarah. I think if you let her control her own message and not try to overcoach her or force her to regurgitate McCain talking points, she is awesome!

A thousand high fives.

jeffreywturner (Diary) Sunday, June 14th at 1:02AM EST (link)

It isn’t that Mrs. Palin is “practicing” or being “coached” at handling the liberal media now, its that she ISN’T.

McCain’s best decision in election 2008 was picking Sarah. His worst one was not letting her be herself.

'Course, that might have something to do with the fact that this was live,

and the Couric/Gibson interviews were taped, allowing the MSM hack jobbers to spice, edit, omit and just generally do whatever they could to make her seem like a bubble-headed idiot.

Brings to mind Richard Allen during the Reagan administration who refused to do any interview which wasn’t live for this precise reason.

is that I am so very glad this incredibly talented politician is on OUR side.

Maybe she doesn’t become the “face” of the Republican Party. I’m hard-pressed to think of another Republican with her gift of connecting, of authenticity, of that indefinable something that makes one a media superstar.

Maybe Huckabee, maybe. No one else comes even close.

as well as Matt Lauer for giving Sarah Palin the opportunity to shine, and shine she has. The fact that some so-called Republicans have trashed her shows that they are as frightened of her political abilities, appeal and charisma as the Libs. I don’t know if she will be the 2012 candidate, or if she will even run in 2012, but she has retained her status with her supporters, which are many. How many other VP candidates, that were on losing tickets, are even remembered past election day?
