Even CNN Senses Something Special

MSM Recognizing the Real "Palin Effect"

“There’s something happening here. What it is aint exactly clear. We better stop, hey, what’s that sound. Everybody look what’s going down.” – Buffalo Springfield

The magnetism and popularity of Sarah Palin can no longer be denied. This article from CNN acknowledging Sarah’s grass roots appeal is a href="http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/21/palin.factor/index.html">triumph.

Still, CNN seems insistent that her popularity is limited to the base. This is bogus. The only people turned off by Sarah are Left wing ideologues. Being a younger, Blue state bachelor myself, I can tell you that many people outside the traditional Republican base like her. She is a definite X factor.

Its tough to gauge her popularity through the media spin, but little things like her SNL appearance are revealing. Even the New York Times gushed that her performance was href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/20/arts/television/20watch.html">delightful, remarkable and jarring. Heck, she even has Alec Baldwin defending her on liberal href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alec-baldwin/palin-on-isnli-what-did-y_b_136186.html
">blogs. Her appeal is transcendent.

“Could ‘Palin factor’ save McCain?” asks CNN. I think we all know the answer to that. The money quote in the CNN article comes from the often hostile David Gergen who stated:

“It may well be that there is … a group of people out there now who find it politically incorrect to be for Sarah Palin in public, but they’re going to vote for her in the privacy of the voting booth,”

Yesterday, a Sarah Palin rally in Grand Junction, Colorado drew 22,000. This was a record breaking href="http://www.krextv.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=4642&storytopic=1">event. To put this in perspective just consider that Grand Junction has a total population of 45,000 and there are no other metropolitan areas nearby. In other words, it aint Saint Louis.

There’s something happening here.

wide appeal

Michael DeWeese (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 5:14PM EST (link)

A friend of mine, liberal wing nut that she is, stated she was voting for McCain prior to the VP pick because she considered Obama the “antichrist”. How she thought this, being a wicca person and all, was beyond me. When McCain picked Palin, she reconsidered and decided she would vote for the “antichrist” because she didn’t like Palin. Recently, she has learned more about Plain and is once again voting McCain, because Palin is a good role model for her 2 daughters. Go figure.

You Can Pick Your Friends

You know that you can pick your friend, but you cant pick your family. You might want to sever that contract and designate her for assignment.

Well, NBC and MSNBC will just have to step it up!

Vegas_Rick (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 5:25PM EST (link)

With CNN going into their pre-election reality phase, where they, you know, report the news and provide NEARLY balance analysis, the rest of the MSM will just have to step up the attacks.

Bravo- S.Y. .. I can attest to her appeal, as I saw her in person here in Pensacola ..

Step up attacks on Obama you mean??

izoneguy (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 5:31PM EST (link)

They can start by showing this video.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

No offense

polara Tuesday, October 21st at 5:39PM EST (link)

her approval ratings are the worst of the the 4 on the tickets. She is not popular with independents. Moderates do not like her. If you let ideology cloud your judgment, you won’t be able to see that she is having a negative effect on the campaign.

I Was There (Grand Junction)!!

josephinerose (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 5:41PM EST (link)

And believe me, this is the “boondocks” having moved here from the Front Range!! The crowd was pumped and energized!! It was awesome to see her in person — she’s a classy gal!! Todd and the girls were with her. I took my three kids — 8, 6, & 2 — they loved it!! I’m of the opinion that the polls haven’t factored in her effect at all and I think they’re going to have a BIG surprise on election night. She will be the next Vice President!!!

Family

Michael DeWeese (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 5:42PM EST (link)

I have known her for 30 years, since we where weee little kiddies. She is family, I am her sons god father. And I have high hopes for helping her children come to the good side.

According to which polls?

RandomGuy (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 5:42PM EST (link)

Some polls have shown that. Others have not.

I haven’t yet seen one where Biden has had higher approval ratings then her.

Draft Mitch Daniels for President ’12

I don't see it

The VP pick is supposed to be an attack dog.
Sarah Palin at least is a pit bull, even if with lipstick.
Joe Biden is just an open mouth gaffe machine.
How is Joe Biden helping his ticket more than Sarah Palin?

Here he is again

I realize it is anecdotal, but...

Fallon (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 5:59PM EST (link)

I am an independent/moderate, I was leaning Democratic in the primaries, but switched to McCain because of Sarah Palin.

Palin Derangement Syndrome only seems to affect far left ideologues.

Her approval ratings in Alaska were superior to any other governor. Her likability rating is quickly trending upwards as more and more people are judging her themselves and not listening to the MSM and DNC attack dogs.

Hah, that's the spin

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 6:00PM EST (link)

You guys can try to spin it, but it doesnt work here. Its not even working out there anymore. I saw her in NH. People who weren’t political, never mind Republicans, came in droves to see her like it was an event.

Your relying on a couple of old push polls. The Left is so afraid of her. They like to imagine that the Republican Party is the stuffy old white man party. Plus Sarah detroys everything feminist beleive. There is media spin and then there is reality.

hey Swamp check these supposed McCain

PaRep (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 6:03PM EST (link)

Internal polls on Quinn & Rose talked about this morning on SHOCKINGLY enough the Quinn & Rose Morning Show haha

The Quinn and Rose show this morning was saying that the McCain internals look like this:

PA: M – 51, O – 46
OH: M – 47, O – 41
MO: M – 44, O – 40

Actually, her polls are off the charts positive.

Tim_Schieferecke (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 6:05PM EST (link)

She is the most popular Governor in America. Her approval ratings there are in the high 80s. She’s just not popular with baby killing socialists. I’ll take my bets that that group is actually pretty small.

Tim Schieferecke

depends on what you're talking about

I was a retread named Zombie Flanders / randomkid. Tuesday, October 21st at 6:19PM EST (link)

When polara said “approval rating” I think he/she meant nationwide, not in Alaska. It is true she is mad popular in Alaska, but less so in the nation overall (I am referring to “favorability” ratings not approval ratings). Going here , clicking on the names of each of the 4, looking at what first comes up (because I’m lazy), it appears Obama is at 61, McCain and Biden at 59 and Palin at 51. She’s also the highest unfavorable at 41.

She’s just not popular with baby killing socialists. I’ll take my bets that that group is actually pretty small.

I think baby killing socialists are under 41% of the population, and in any event I am both a non-(baby killing socialist) and one who would answer “unfavorable” to the question asked in this poll.

Hahaha - You Linked a CBS/NYT poll on Redstate

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 6:24PM EST (link)

Last week CBS/NYT had McCain down 14. Even a drunk liberal has to know they are awful.

Seriously, CBS got caught fabricating stories about Bush, NYT is so far in the tank for Obama, Democrats dont deny it. So you link that old pice of crap here and expect it to resonate.

Also that CNN poll is bad too

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 6:28PM EST (link)

Like Fallon stated above “Her likability rating is quickly trending upwards as more and more people are judging her themselves and not listening to the MSM and DNC attack dogs”

When the elctorates perception of Sarah was what they they saw on Katie Couric or SNL, her numbers started to go down. Now she is unleashed and people are seeing the real her, she is exploding up.

Polls

I was a retread named Zombie Flanders / randomkid. Tuesday, October 21st at 6:43PM EST (link)

I generally don’t discriminate polls by the media outlet that sponsors them…but take the CNN polls which I quoted. According to same website, the last CNN poll was 51-46 Obama. This is about where other outfits have the race, but assume for a minute that this is a mega-outlier (even though other polls are about the same), that they lowball Republican support by 5 points and overestimate Dem support by 5 also (so that the race is really 51-46 the other way, a 10 point swing). WRT Palin and Obama, Obama and Palin would still have the same favorability at 57, even in that scenario. This isn’t one single poll, but the result of many, I’m talking about.

A better question, though, would be, what is a good poll to look at? The WSJ/NBC polls, according to my quick math, also has Palin as the least popular. I sometimes hear conservatives disliking NBC, but WSJ doesn’t seem like they would put their name on an in-the-tank-for-Obama poll.

Stay away from major network polls

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 6:48PM EST (link)

ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN polls all stink. Second, get current data. A week ago, half the young people in America thought Sarah was just like Tina Fey’s impression. Now, they think she’s cool.

Her stock is rising fast. The media cant spin her negatives anymore. Read the CNN article. Read stories about her rally numbers and demographics. That is real. Old push polls are not real.

On That Topic: NBC/WSJ Poll Today

Strelnikov (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 7:03PM EST (link)

has Big Brobama up by 10%.

I also have wondered why the WSJ co-operates with NBC, and they have run a good number of gloomy get-prepared-for-the-worst stories based on their polling.

Certainly the editorial page dislikes Big Brobama immensely.

News is MOONBAT crazy LIberal

CNN Palin and polls

I was a retread named Zombie Flanders / randomkid. Tuesday, October 21st at 7:18PM EST (link)

So what would be a good poll? Something by a major firm but not with a media name attached, like gallup (not gallup/x)?

I took the most recent poll data available. Someone can draw huge crowds and still be unpopular overall, or more accurately be less popular than the other guy (Palin’s ratings are still generally positive, just less than the others). I mean, both Palin and Obama constantly have drawn big crowds, but one has to be the less popular one.

A week ago, half the young people in America thought Sarah was just like Tina Fey’s impression. Now, they think she’s cool.

What’s this based on, or is it speculation? I have a mathematical background, so I trust numbers and I haven’t seen any to back this up. Besides, among my friends (who are young) this is not true…opinions have not changed in the last week. Also btw I find SNL to be more persuasive among older people I know than among my generation. None of my friends ever watch it, we only hear about it the next day if anything happens.

Even in this CNN article (I don’t see how you can trust the article and not the poll) there is little other than “she’s popular among the base.” Which she is…but she can be popular among the base and the least popular of the four among everyone…this could be true and she could still get huge crowds and rock-star treatment.

Finally, considering that no specific news event prompted this story, you know that it’s publishing was an editorial decision of sorts, not straight news (this story could (for the most part) have been written a week, or a month, ago). For all we know it was published to try and make nice with the Repubs, due to a slow news day, to make up for a perceived lack of balance, or whatever. Hell, for all we know it was written 10 days ago, and updated before publishing. Same if tomorrow they have a story up on Michelle Obama and her influence…it won’t be because anything related to her changed, but because they decided (for whatever reason) to talk about her.

Finally, this is the first non-media-entity poll I could find on this and it shows Biden as more popular than Palin. It is old, but the number by which Biden is more popular than Palin is about the same as the CNN poll from the closest time period (the 3 days immediately before), so it is hard to say that the CNN poll is skunked and not the Rasmussen poll.

WSJ

bigfoot (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 7:24PM EST (link)

is the most liberal newspaper in the country, with the exception of the editorial board which is pretty conservative.

So it wouldn’t surpise me one tiny bit that they would put their names on a biased poll.

“To believe in nothing is to believe in everything. To believe in everything is to believe in nothing”

alright, forget the WSJ...

I was a retread named Zombie Flanders / randomkid. Tuesday, October 21st at 9:11PM EST (link)

…this still leaves the question, what is a reliable poll in yall’s eyes? Or rather, what organization produces reliable unbiased polls in yall’s eyes?

A reliable poll??? The one taken on November 4th.

Tim_Schieferecke (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 9:15PM EST (link)

Don’t forget to vote November 5th.

Tim Schieferecke

Honestly, I don't trust any of 'em...

Moe Lane (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 9:36PM EST (link)

…until two days before the election. Until then, I think of ‘em like Smarties: sometimes they taste good, sometimes they leave burned spots in my mouth, they’re always bad for me, and if I open up the cellophane wrapper I’m going to eat the whole darn thing.

well yeah...

I was a retread named Zombie Flanders / randomkid. Tuesday, October 21st at 9:55PM EST (link)

…but if you wanna say that Gov Palin is popular (or more specifically, more popular than the others) that won’t tell you anything…and that question is what this was all originally about. If McCain loses, for example, it could be due to Sarah Palin, despite Sarah Palin, independent of Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin hurt him but he was doomed anyway, she helped but not by enough, etc.

You said something along the lines of only baby-killing socialists disliking Gov Palin, which I think is false. That is what I was originally posting in response to, so while it’s true the election is what really matters, that leaves us nowhere on my argument that one can disapprove of Palin and not be a baby-killing socialist.

This business of Sarah Palin’s popularity seems to be getting into the realm of not being falsifiable.

Given that none of us can agree on standard units of measurement...

Moe Lane (Diary) Tuesday, October 21st at 10:00PM EST (link)

…I’m going to have to counter that it isn’t falsifiable. But that’s not our fault. It’s not your fault, either. It’s the fault of the people who are making the measuring devices.
