No More Mosques

I have stated here at RedState, and I have noticed others share the same opinion, that the building of Islamic mosques should be halted in the United States. I’m not just talking about the Ground Zero mosque that is an obvious sign of victory for the Islamists. I’m talking about mosques that are springing up all over the country. I have been grateful to see that various republican candidates around the country have shared the same concern.

In Murfreesboro, Tenn., Republican candidates have denounced plans for a large Muslim center proposed near a subdivision, and hundreds of protesters have turned out for a march and a county meeting.

This is certainly understandable since this mosque would be placed right near a subdivision of concerned American families.

In late June, in Temecula, Calif., members of a local Tea Party group took dogs and picket signs to Friday prayers at a mosque that is seeking to build a new worship center on a vacant lot nearby.

In Sheboygan, Wis., a few Christian ministers led a noisy fight against a Muslim group that sought permission to open a mosque in a former health food store bought by a Muslim doctor.

There are over 1900 mosques in America. Many are funded through Saudi Jihadists as author Steven Emerson has so thoroughly researched and documented. Most are seeking to impose a type of Sharia law in America.

A smaller controversy is occurring in Temecula, about 60 miles north of San Diego, involving a typical stew of religion, politics and anti-immigrant sentiment. A Muslim community has been there for about 12 years and expanded to 150 families who have outgrown their makeshift worship space in a warehouse, said Mahmoud Harmoush, the imam, a lecturer at California State University, San Bernardino. The group wants to build a 25,000-square-foot center, with space for classrooms and a playground, on a lot it bought in 2000.

Recently, a small group of activists became alarmed about the mosque. Diana Serafin, a grandmother who lost her job in tech support this year, said she reached out to others she knew from attending Tea Party events and anti-immigration rallies. She said they read books by critics of Islam, including former Muslims like Walid Shoebat, Wafa Sultan and Manoucher Bakh. She also attended a meeting of the local chapter of ACT! for America, a Florida-based group that says its purpose is to defend Western civilization against Islam.

And it is not just in California, Wisconsin, New York, Florida, or Tennessee. It is all over America. And I for one am proud to see the GOP taking a stand on this issue and leading the fight. Although many have been critical of Sarah Palin,Michelle Malkin,Anne Coulter (my personal hero), Newt Gingrich, and others for taking a stand where every real American should, I would just like to say “thank you!”

No Muslim should be allowed to immigrate to this Country.

Tbone (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 10:08PM EST (link)

Every Muslim who is not a citizen should immediately be deported. I am frickin’ sick of people trying to pass off this stone age political/social personality cult which practices and condones child rape and the murder of women as some type of religion. Is the Mafia a religion? Jim Jones a religion? Hitler worship? The SS? Pol Pot? Scientology?

Muslims want to overthrow our political system and judicial system. Do ANY OF YOU think for one minute that Muslims will not detonate a nuclear weapon in an American city just as soon as they get the opportunity?

Wake up people. Muslims want to kill you. And, I’m sorry but I have neither the time nor the energy, to say nothing of the wisdom needed to sort out good Muslims from the rest.

If a Muslim doesn’t want to ahere to the basic tenets of Western Civilization, they should be sent back to the cesspool country they came from.

Are you out of your mind?

You really are out of your mind. I’m sorry you have neither the time or the energy for rational thought, but that’s no excuse for this lunacy.

You say Muslims don’t adhere to the basic tenets of Western Civilization, all the while trampling all over the Constitution, and everything this country stands for.

This ignorant garbage has no place here.

However, with respect to SusieQ, i do appreciate your concern and fear. I imagine we all feel the same to some degree from time to time, but

“PANAMA CITY — A Congressional candidate told local high school and middle school students Tuesday that Islam’s plan is to destroy the American way of life.”

“I’m totally against it. If I had my way, it would pretty much be over my dead body,” said Ron McNeil, a candidate for the U.S. House District 2 seat, who was referring to a controversial plan to build an Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero in New York City. “That religion is against everything America stands for. If we have to let them build it, make them build it nine stories underground, so we can walk above it as citizens and Christians.”

“This religion’s plan is to destroy our way of life,” McNeil said.

no more Mosques should be built in the US.

I’m frankly surprised you haven’t met the blamstick yet, but I hope you don’t. You’re so unhinged you’ll be fun on slow days.

I apologize. When I stated "agrees with me"

suzieQ (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 1:08AM EST (link)

What I meant was that he agrees with me on the threat of Islam. Not that he agrees that mosques should no longer be built. I have been a member here for four years, so I have seen the blamstick in action on others. I do not wish to be banned. And I know this is a sensitive subject for some. But I have noticed that I am not alone in this belief (for instance look at the first comment on this thread).

And for the record, I have not heard any candidate or politician say no more mosques period (which I would support). But I have shown examples of opposition to mosques being built in several different states. If it cannot be managed at the federal level (and with Maobama it won’t be) it could be managed on a state or district level.

This is not a "sensitive subject". It is the definition

of total, abject stupidity. In the world of absolutely unconstitutional thoughts yours is number one, going away.

You’d probably feel right at home with Joe Stalin and you are an absolute nasty stain on the Redstate bandwidth. You really should go find a more hospitable place, like a Charles Johnson site.

What exactly do you disagree with?

suzieQ (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 1:18AM EST (link)

Do you believe we should build a mosque at Ground Zero?
Or one near a subdivision in Murfreesboro, Tenn?
Or in Temecula, Calif.?
Or in Sheboygan, Wis?

I can understand the opposition that has been shown towards all of these planned sites. I understand why good candidates are opposing the building of these mosques. I would rather state “no more” rather than to continue picking and choosing sites here and there.

suzie you are a total idiot.

mbecker908 (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 1:27AM EST (link)

GZM, I’m opposed to. At the end of the day though, it’s a NYC issue.

The other three I don’t care about one way or the other. Again, construction would be up to local authorities in conformance to local building codes.

Unless and until you can prove in a civilian court that the leadership of any particular mosque (or church for that matter) is breaking US law you have exactly no reason – and no right, constitutionally – to block the building of a house of worship. It’s called private property and it’s a bedrock of US liberty.

Your totally stupid position wouldn’t last 30 seconds in any court in the land and I would hope you’d be sanctioned and forced to pay attorney’s fees for the opposition.

I definitely understand your point of view

suzieQ (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 1:35AM EST (link)

Constitutionally, you are 100% correct. That is why the GZM will be built. But can you see why the candidates referenced above, the hundreds of people who have protested, and myself have an adverse view of all these other mosques being built?

And please stop calling ne an “idiot” or “stupid”. This is not DailyKos, HuffingtonPost, or some Soros funded site. In the GOP we can disagree with other people’s positions without resorting to Alinsky-style attacks. I certainly understand (and agree with) your points in regards to the constitution. But I don’t consider our GOP candidates in TN to be “idiots”.

You're right, suzie

aesthete (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 3:53AM EST (link)

Here’s the definition of stupid: “characterized by or proceeding from mental dullness; foolish; senseless: a stupid question.” Under that definition, your idea isn’t stupid, as you know full well what you’re doing: it’s dangerous and inimical to our system of ordered liberty, property rights, and the peaceable exercise of one’s religion. The GOP candidates supporting this tripe, likewise, are actively promoting abject awfulness for a few votes, just like birthers and truthers before them did. I have some qualms with Islam as a form of expression, but this is by far one of the worst forms possible of dealing with those qualms.

No suzie you don't "understand" anything.

mbecker908 (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 8:40AM EST (link)

And as far as you being an “idiot”, that’s not “name calling” it’s a simple statement of fact.

You have the audacity to come here and post an inflammatory diary demanding that the US stop Muslims from building mosques. You righteously assert that all kinds of people “agree” with you when, in fact, they don’t even touch the central tenant of your position. You don’t seem to be able to comprehend that “being opposed to the building of the GZM” is not anywhere near the same thing as “no mosques should ever be built in the US”. You are completely incapable of assembling a rational argument.

As far as congressional candidates in TN, given that they aren’t calling for or supporting your position, I don’t even see why they are mentioned here. Were I running for congress and you tacked my name in this disgusting diatribe I’d find a way to sue you.

As far as “Alinsky style attacks” you wouldn’t know one if it landed on you and you don’t have to be worried about that happening to you. In fact, Alinsky used his points to go after credible people and you aren’t one.

“Permits should not be granted to build even one more mosque in the United States of America, let alone the monstrosity planned for Ground Zero,” Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association wrote this week on the AFA website. “This is for one simple reason: each Islamic mosque is dedicated to the overthrow of the American government.”

OK suzie, first you come in here with an openly

mbecker908 (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 9:15AM EST (link)

hateful screed that even you admit is absolutely unconstitutional, and you provide exactly no mechanism for implementing it (because there is none). I’m guessing that you and the two moonbats who are supporting you simply aren’t bright enough to understand the basic concept of constitutional government.

Next, you find statements from candidates for office who are opposed to the GZM and you claim that they support you. When called on it, you admit they don’t actually support you but they kind of support the idea that the GZM shouldn’t be built. In polite circles, your claim of support by those third parties is called a “lie”.

Now you find a statement by somebody from AFA. I don’t doubt he made it, but it’s as hateful and disconnected as your original thesis and, coming from him, basically supports the establishment of a theocracy in the US since that’s the only way it could happen.

Ahh, the AFA

Terrible idea

aesthete (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 4:10AM EST (link)

Just terrible. I’m sure (or at least, I hope) that you’re a wonderful person and that you suggest this out of good intentions; nevertheless, such intentions do not good policy make. First off all, the rights of the citizenry shouldn’t be subject to your or anyone else’s tastes, full stop. Our rights have certainly been tarnished over the years, but banning mosques on a grand scale would permanently destroy any semblance of universal values that we currently hold. Secondly, such a proposition blithely assumes Thirdly, this would send a horrible message to the Islamic world which, lest we forget, we are trying to reach out to and moderate per our current foreign policy goals. Though I don’t agree with those goals as they stand, engaging in such an action would irreparably damage any headway we’ve made on them thus far.

Thank God most conservatives, including aforementioned “real Americans” Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter, aren’t short-sighted or foolish enough to forget that we have rights in this country, and that anytime we engage in such foolishness, the crosshairs are pointed right back at us. People like JSob bring up ideas that I disagree with strongly, but which hold validity as ideas in and of themselves. This sort of thing adds no value to the debate, is impractical, and utterly inimical to US values and goals. Shame on Newt and the other conservatives who have promoted this idea, and shame on those who have implied that such an idea is up for debate.

This post and the comments that followed are indistinguishable from those of a troll or moby (and I don’t throw out that claim often).

And Becker? I wouldn’t let a bigoted piece of {excrement} like this near my litterbox.

While Islam is currently attracting more than their fair share of charlatans, men who want to use religion to gain power rather than to seek the divine, that doesn’t mean the problem is the religion, or the bulk of its’ adherents. SuzyQ’s bigoted blanket statements are just not helpful.

To my mind, this would be akin to making a blanket statement about christians based on the actions of David Koresh or David Duke.

That said, I haven’t seen a lot of pushback against these deceivers from other muslims – Martin I’m hoping you’re not such a rarity as you appear to be – but I’m also not tied into a muslim social network so I could just be missing it. I’m hopeful such efforts will come more into the open soon as that’s the best way to push back against the bigots.

that a very large group within the GOP feels this way. People like you will have to find a way to soften the rhetoric – you can’t drive them out. There won’t be a party anymore. There will have to be conversation, dialogue, and level-headed negotiations to begin to push this sort of talk back. These types of posts and attitudes are driven by one key emotion: fear. any other bigotry the GOP gets falsely tarred with.

And, if they’re even moderately clever, the Dems can turn the GOP into “the party that hates Muslims”. It’ll be harder than convincing ethnic minorities but it could be done.

It’s not fear, by the way – the roots of bigotry are in ignorance – harder to have the same kind of broad, irrational fears about something you know – and in this way the insular nature of immigrant-muslim communities works against them, the tendency to be separate does not encourage the kind of social contact that would drive out bigotry.

Perspective

Andrew_D (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 10:08AM EST (link)

While I do not agree with the theme of the post – of course you cannot simply ban a religion under our Constitution, I understand Suzy’s emotion – especially when a full quarter of the electorate believes that Obama is a Muslim (birthers, anyone?)……..btw roughly another quarter refused to answer the question or expressed uncertainty. More than half deny his claim to be a Christian. See the new TIME poll: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2011799,00.html

Now, here is the problem. I also understand Martin’s disgust, and the disgust of many others on this forum. I agree that the spirit of this post goes against the American ideal. There is one problem though. There is a massive amount of similar rhetoric across the American heartland. Calling these people idiots, and hateful will do absolutely nothing but raise the stakes. Muslims are in a precarious position in America. One can even draw a parallel between the attitude of Americans towards Japanese after Pearl Harbor. (internment camps)

We live in a very explosive time. Emotions are felt very strongly. People are saying things that they regret. I suggest that it is in the best interest of American Muslims to take very soft, pro-American, and non-confrontational positions in the debate raging today. Why? Because when average Americans get truly angry, logic and reason get thrown aside.

You may not like Suzy’s post – neither do I. Calling her a piece of cat box litter, idiot, hateful and other assorted names gives her exactly the reaction that she expected. Graciousness in the face of hate will win every time.

crap are proud American Christians and agnostics, as far as I can tell. It’s good advice for American Muslims for the reasons that you note, but that only means that those of us who aren’t Muslim bear an additional responsibility to lead the charge on rights for those citizens. We must echo the great example set forth by small-government, anti-New Deal governor Randy Carr when he was the only governor in the continental US to condemn the Japanese Internment, and when he extended full rights the Japanese who lost property to the paranoia of the times (a move which cost him his political career, btw). Posts like yours just raise the stakes. Law school ought to teach you to be very careful what you post. What you put in print lasts forever.

I understand exactly what you are talking about.

The boiling kettle that we are seeing now is the direct result of overly strict PC police that pertained to all things Islam. This issue has blown the lid of the kettle. The water would not be so hot if past public square discussions had been a little more open.

My rules of the road for primary season.
Rule #1: Vote for YOUR first choice in the primaries
Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.

STOP THE MADNESS!

A reduction in the rate of spending increases is NOT a cut!
In-state tuition for illegals is NOT amnesty!
Requiring someone to pay their medical bills is NOT an individual mandate!
Reducing tax rates is NOT a tax increase!

We fought this out with communism after WWII.

Achance (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 3:47PM EST (link)

After all the anti-communism and “Red Scare” after the Russian Revolution, even US troops in Siberia, we had to make nice with the Soviets for most of WWII. It should be remembered the Communist fronts and unions were adamantly opposed to the Allies and their unions here and in Europe did everything they could to thwart the war effort right up to the day Hitler invaded the USSR, whereupon all the leftists started screaming “Second Front Now” and complaining about how the war was being won with Russian blood. We really touted our gallant Russian allies and their leader “Uncle Joe” Stalin, but things got a bit tense as it finally sunk in that they really did mean to dominate all of Europe and challenge us in the Pacific and eventually right in our own territory. Remember, “We will Bury You?”

We had to change our relationship with the Soviet Union and with the communists in our midst and do it within the constraints of a “free” society and our Constitution. We drew the line that you must swear allegiance to our constitution and not advocate the overthrow of the US Government. Lots of people didn’t like that limit on political expression and the Left pushed back hard on loyalty oaths and counter-espionage and I think largely won the battle by the early ’70s. We’ll never know just how much influence the USSR had over the Civil Rights Movement and the Anti-War Movement, and the Nuclear Freeze, and anti-Missle Defense and a whole bunch of other leftist/communist causes, because we just stopped chasing them in the ’70s.

We’ve tried to make peace with Islam and called it a religion of peace with about the same sincerity as we talked about our gallant Russian Allies; nobody with a brain believes the Moslem world wishes us anything but ill just like everyone with a brain knew that the Soviets were only our friend because they were the enemy of our enemy.

We can’t become a totalitarian society because we confront totalitarian enemies, but we do not have to give our enemies a free hand to operate against our interests behind the protections of the Constitution. The theocracy contemplated by Islam and Sharia Law are irreconcilable with the US system of republican democracy. We have to find a way to assure that the Moslems among us are first loyal to our way of life, and if they are not, they need to leave.

In Vino Veritas

Achance, you say it true. I can not reconcile anything in our Constitution except the right to a trial

and a short rope with the stated and dedicated goals of a cult pursuing our destruction with religious fervor.

There are limits to all Rights contained in the Constitution and the stated goals of Islam falls way beyond those boundaries.

Perhaps some of you apologists for Islam would like to venture a guess of what percentage of Muslims will actually be appalled when one of their brethren lights a nuke in Manhattan?

Anyone, anyone?

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

Moslems have no intention of assimilating

into our traditional American culture. Just look at Dearborn, Michigan. No assimilation there.

I believe most Moslems, if given a choice of joining a Moslem rebellion in this Country to overthrow our government and establish a Moslem/ Sharia based state, or to fight against such a rebellion to retain our Constitutionally based values, would eagerly do the former.

I agree that we should look to the Cold War

both domestically and abroad as a framework for dealing with this issue.

Domestically we infiltrated all sorts of groups that were fronts for the USSR, We nonetheless had a US Communist party on the ballet each election, even though that group was in fact paid for by the KGB (read Operation Solo for a detailed account of that double agent).

Abroad, we used levers like Radio Free Europe to make sure our side of the propaganda war was not silence. We also applied leverage in a variety of ways.

The oil money of the ME makes this exercise more complex, given the economic integration. But its still possible to do better than we are.
