Your comment is an excellent talking point, of which there are many on RedState and elsewhere, including at Town Halls. Has anybody tried to collect them for the benefit of our Republican candidates and spokesmen? They seem to have a very difficult time developing themselves, sometimes.

“Border fence first.”

“Fix Medicare and the VA first.”

“It isn’t bad to try to help the very needy to survive.”

“The free market is built on competition.”

“The profit motive is the most powerful incentive there is to eliminate waste and reduce costs.”

“No bill is better than a bad bill.”

“Identify the problem before attempting to solve it.”

Used judiciously, they can help. Our spokesmen do need to understand the principles behind them, though.

I don’t think we should cut him some slack, he just hates it when he loses.

And I do remind myself, it is after all a business, and if those guests get ground into the dirt, they won’t go on the shows. So, let them show themselves for the mean and nasty idiots they are.

My premise is that the Republican Party has leaders that actually think about strategies for getting their message out. I know I probably need to “check my premises” — first, that the Party has leaders, and second, that they actually attempt to come up with strategies.

You’re also guessing that they try to think.

At one time I would have agreed with a boycott. Now, I’d prefer that the interviewees go on air with knowledge of tactics to turn the lefties’ craziness back on them, sort of like verbal jiu jitsu. I admire Congressman Culberson for sticking it out to the end. I might have called O’Donnell an idiot and left him with nobody to talk to about halfway through the segment. I wonder when he would have noticed he was talking to himself literally as well as figuratively.

Back to strategy and tactics. I used to get peeved at Bill O’Reilly because he didn’t call out the libs who wouldn’t answer his questions; wouldn’t get off the Dem talking points. Yet, he would let them spin after a while. In fact, his is sort of the direct opposite of O’Donnell’s approach. I no longer disapprove of Bill’s manner of treating his guests. His spinning guests are always obvious. He doesn’t have to call them “liars,” as O’Donnell seems wont to do.

He has always said that the viewers can see what is happening for themselves. I now agree. If you aren’t drunk on Kool-Aid, it’s obvious that it was O’Donnell who went over the cliff.

Anyway, far better for ‘Pubs to make the questioner look uninformed or just plain biased and let the public decide for itself who is right. Culberson did it by trying to keep O’Donnell on the subject. When O’Donnell didn’t like the answers he was getting, he tried to change the subject. Culberson commented civilly on what was happening, and it made O’Donnell look foolish. Calling a guest a liar is definitely bad form.

McLaughlin let him filibuster for about 3 minutes there, then interrupt the others as they tried to refute him.

But don’t forget the author of Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them was recently “elected” to the Senate. I guess it helps to be able to shout down your opponent. It also helps to have George Soros’s money, or GE’s money, behind you.
