Michael Avenatti’s legal reputation suffered a blow from which it may never recover when, just a couple of hours ago, a federal judge dismissed a defamation case brought by porn actress and pole dancer Stormy Daniels against President Trump.

Daniels had enlisted the aid of the fabled legal strategist to sue President Trump for defamation when he claimed he was not one of the perhaps hundreds or more men who’d been intimate with her.

Via the Washington Post:

Trump attorney Charles Harder cheered Otero’s decision and said the amount of legal fees owed would be determined later.

“No amount of spin or commentary by Stormy Daniels or her lawyer, Mr. Avenatti, can truthfully characterize today’s ruling in any way other than total victory for President Trump and total defeat for Stormy Daniels,” Harder said in an emailed statement.

The ruling is a blow for Daniels and her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, who has raised a national profile from his legal battles against the president and is contemplating a presidential bid in 2020.

Avenatti called the ruling “limited” on Twitter and said it did not affect Daniels’s primary case against Trump and his former attorney Michael Cohen, which seeks to invalidate her 2016 nondisclosure agreement.

The ruling–you can read it here–is limited if you are Avenatti and haven’t been disbarred for your role in it. For Daniels, it is a rather expensive lesson. She is liable for Trump’s attorney’s fees…which is sort of like paying Trump for having sex with her, Yeti or no Yeti.

And the judge basically, as I understand the ruling, killed this case by refusing to allow Daniels to amend her complaint.

This is a bizarre end to a bizarre story and, unfortunately, the only person not hurt in this is the guy who convinced Daniels to breach her non-disclosure agreement.
