The NRA is holding its annual convention this week. Two of the guest speakers will be Vice President Mike Pence and, tentatively, President Donald Trump. The Secret Service has banned the carrying of firearms during their attendance and the anti-gun nutters, led by the “Parkland kids,” are raging about hypocrisy:
Parkland survivors criticized the National Rifle Association after it banned guns from Vice President Mike Pence’s upcoming speech at the organization’s annual convention later this week.
…
Cameron Kasky, a survivor of the Parkland school shooting, tweeted a screen shot of the note and wrote: “The NRA has evolved into such a hilarious parody of itself.“Matt Deitsch, a Parkland student who helped organize the March for Our Lives rally, replied to Kasky’s tweet saying that the NRA will keep Pence safe without any weapons “but when it comes to children they want guns everywhere.”
“Can someone explain this to me? Because it sounds like the NRA wants to protect people who help them sell guns, not kids,” Deitsch wrote on Twitter.
…
Fred Guttenberg, father of 14-year-old Jaime Guttenberg who was killed in the Parkland attack, also still criticized the ban.“On so many levels, this is enlightening. According to the NRA, we should want everyone to have weapons when we are in public. But when they put on a convention, the weapons are a concern? I thought giving everyone a gun was to enhance safety. Am I missing something?“ the father tweeted.
Does this sound familiar? Well, it should.
From 2017
President Trump will give a speech at the National Rifle Association’s annual gathering in Atlanta later today. The NRA has fought tirelessly to make sure that gun owners can take their guns anywhere. But ironically, conference attendees won’t be able to hold onto the rock-hard steel of their sensuous guns as they watch Donald Trump’s speech.
The fact is, the Secret Service controls security for the venue when the President or Vice President is there. You can carry a gun, you just can’t carry it an get within a certain distance of Trump or Pence. The NRA is allowing firearms to be carried at the venue so long as the owner is in compliance with Texas law. These people are so lethargic and bereft of ideas that they are using attacks that have been pre-debunked by Snopes.
Why is anyone paying any attention these people? Why does anyone care what any teenager thinks about any public policy issue?
