Everything That's Wrong With America in One Anecdote

Last Monday night in Broken Arrow, OK, 23-year-old Zach Peters was awakened shortly after midnight by the door to his father’s house (where he was living) being kicked in. He picked up the great all purpose tool, the AR-15, and went to investigate. He confronted three teenagers Maxwell Cook, 19, Jacob Redfearn, 17, Jaykob Woodruff, 16. They were armed with at least one knife and at least one set of brass knuckles.

Words were exchanged. Then things went south. Peters opened fire, fled to his bedroom, and barricaded himself in it. And then he called 911.

When police arrived on the scene they found one dead outside and two dead in the house.

The getaway driver was busted and she is now facing three counts of felony murder and the rest of her life in prison.

As my Old Man would say, they needed killing. There was a time, in the first half of the 20th century when many states considered burglary of an occupied dwelling to be a capital offense because of the assumption that murdering the inhabitant was part of the plan if the burglary was discovered.

Some papers are saying Oklahoma’s “stand your ground” law allowed the shooting but killing home invaders has never been illegal in civilized parts of the nation.

Now the grandfather of slain felon Jacob Redfearn is speaking out and he is not happy:

“What these three boys did was stupid,” said Leroy Schumacher.

Schumacher agrees his grandson and his friends made a bad decision, but not one worthy of deadly consequences.

“They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die,” said Schumacher.

“Brass knuckles against an AR-15, come on, who was afraid for their life,” said Schumacher.

Schumacher does say he supports the right to bear arms and protect your home. But he doesn’t agree with shooting and killing intruders.

Grief does funny things to people. I don’t know that it makes them freaking morons, though. So something more profound is at work. It points to a moral sickness feeding on the country where no one believes they are responsible for anything, everyone else is at fault, and you deserve stuff just because you want it. This is the AYSO Soccer participation trophy syndrome carried to its logical extension in adulthood, or as close as these douchenozzles will ever be to adults.

We on the right used to see this as a disease of the inner city, but it is increasingly becoming a dominant lifestyle in solid Red counties. Abuse of heroin and oxy and meth is rampant. Families are broken. Women are dropping kids, each sired by a different male, every eighteen months and doing their damnedest to fill in the gene pool. Able-bodied men are on disability. Regular work is unknown. And it is all someone else’s fault. Instead of treating this whiny mewling bullsh** as the utter crap it is, the government subsidizes the behavior and virtually outlaws any criticism of it.

Any resemblance between these symptoms and the 2016 election is purely coincidental.
