In his “thought for the day” (apparently he’s allowed only one and sort of wasted this one as it turned out), Prince Charles took aim at Donald Trump, the Brexit voters in his own nation, and the rise of populism across the moldering corpse of what used to be the center of Western Civilization.

Appearing on Radio 4’s Thought for the Day slot, the Prince spoke of “increasingly aggressive” attitudes towards refugees fleeing Islamic State, and asked listeners to remember that Jesus had once been forced to escape religious persecution.

Aides to the Prince were quick to stress that the strongly-worded address, which he is understood to have written himself, was not aimed at any particular politician or group.

In unusually stark language, the Prince warned that people were “struggling to capture the immensity of the ripple effect” of religious persecution by Islamic extremists in war-torn Syria and Iraq, which has led to millions fleeing their homes.

He said: “The suffering doesn’t end when they arrive seeking refuge in a foreign land. We are now seeing the rise of many populist groups across the world that are increasingly aggressive towards those who adhere to a minority faith.

“All of this has deeply disturbing echoes of the dark days of the 1930s. I was born in 1948 just after the end of world war two in which my parents’ generation had fought and died in a battle against intolerance monstrous extremism and an inhuman attempt to exterminate the Jewish population of Europe.

This tired and anti-historical meme has been circulating for quite a while. Over a year ago, the Washington Post ran an op-ed that made exactly the same claim then as Prince Charles is making now.

There are a lot of differences and damned few similarities between Europe now and the 1930s. There are even fewer, and by that I mean none at all, between Muslim “refugees” running rampant across the European landscape, sexually assaulting women and driving trucks into crowds. Jews, having had much better mothers, didn’t do that.

As I posted at the time, there are two salient differences between the Muslim immigrants of today and Jews of the 1930s. The Muslim immigrants are economic immigrants. They are not fleeing war but rather they are fleeing very safe (at least by Middle Eastern Arab standards) refugee camps to look for jobs in Europe. The immigrants to Europe are not families, they are not women and children, they are not elderly. An astonishing 65% are males of military age. This tells you all you need to know.

And, to the facts of the matter, it is not refugees who are under attack by locals, it is locals who are being attacked by refugees.

In fact, it is Charles turning a blind eye to the endemic terrorism found in these immigrant communities, their brutality towards fellow immigrants who actually want to assimilate, and the hatred of these immigrants for their host nations that reveals this to not be any deep thought (okay, this is Prince Charles so the odds weren’t great of deep thinking going on) but simply a reflexive contempt for his countrymen who disagree with his view of Britain’s future.
