Is the GOP Leadership Signaling They Are On Board With A Dump Trump Convention? (VIDEO)

Despite the fact that the RNC is actively involved in trying to tamp down dissent among convention delegates, there is growing evidence that GOP elected officials are at least tacitly encouraging the #DumpTrump movement.

Last week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell opined that Donald Trump was struggling as a candidate and not very presidential. Yesterday, Senator John McCain joined Scott Walker and Speaker Paul Ryan in endorsing the idea that delegates should be able to vote their conscience at the convention:

As a group of Republican delegates continue their push for the freedom to vote their conscience when casting presidential nominating ballots at the Republican National Convention, John McCain said Tuesday that it’s within their rights to vote how they see fit.

“I think it’s up to every delegate to make up their own minds,” McCain told THE WEEKLY STANDARD in the Capitol. “I do not tell them what to do, I never have.”

McConnell was back at it today, this time in an interview with NY1

McConnell: “Trump clearly needs to change, in my opinion, to win the general election. What I’ve said to him both publicly and privately: ‘You’re a great entertainer. You turn on audiences. You’re good before a crowd. You have a lot of Twitter followers. That worked fine for you in the primaries. But now that you are in the general, people are looking for a level of seriousness that is typically conveyed by having a prepared text and Teleprompter and staying on message.’ So my hope is that he is beginning to pivot and become what I would call a more serious and credible candidate for the highest office in the land.”

Bennett: “At the moment, though, I hear you saying he does not meet that threshold of credibility?”

McConnell: “He’s getting closer. Getting closer.”

What? Trump isn’t credible candidate? What was your first clue?

The fact that you have what could be called “senior statesmen” (hahahahahaha, it was fun writing that) of the GOP visibly refusing to lend their support to the presumptive GOP nominee and encouraging delegates to vote their conscience seems to be signal that if the convention delegates decide to dump a man who is neither a credible candidate nor presidential, then no one will really care.
