Hillary Clinton gave a “major foreign policy” speech in San Diego last night. I suspect that we’d better get use to this type of puffery in which a credulous news media acts as stenographers to whatever bullsh** the Clinton campaign has released. The coverage this speech has received has been particularly egregious for reasons I’ll get into in a moment.

If you feel the need to throw up in your mouth, here is the transcript.

These are the highlights, I’ve culled them from a CNN report breathlessly titled Clinton takes on Trump: Her 34 toughest lines.

1. “Donald Trump’s ideas aren’t just different — they are dangerously incoherent. They’re not even really ideas, just a series of bizarre rants, personal feuds and outright lies.”
2. “He’s not just unprepared — he’s temperamentally unfit to hold an office that requires knowledge, stability and immense responsibility.”
3. “This is not someone who should ever have the nuclear codes because it’s not hard to imagine Donald Trump leading us into a war just because somebody got under his very thin skin.”
4. “We cannot put the safety of our children and grandchildren in Donald Trump’s hands. We cannot let him roll the dice with America.”
5. “He has no ideas on education. No ideas on innovation. He has lots of ideas about who to blame but no clue about what to do.”
6. “This is a man who said that more countries should have nuclear weapons, including Saudi Arabia.”
7. “This is someone who has threatened to abandon our allies in NATO — the countries that work with us to root out terrorists abroad before they strike us at home.”

12. “He praises dictators like Vladimir Putin and picks fights with our friends — including the British prime minister, the mayor of London, the German chancellor, the president of Mexico and the Pope.”

16. “And to top it off, he believes America is weak. An embarrassment. He called our military a disaster. He said we are — quote — a ‘third-world country.’ And he’s been saying things like that for decades. These are the words of someone who doesn’t understand America or the world.”

18. “What’s Trump’s (ISIS plan)? Well, he won’t say. He is literally keeping it a secret. The secret, of course, is he has no idea how to stop ISIS.”

20. “Donald Trump doesn’t know the first thing about Iran or its nuclear program. Ask him — it will become very clear very quickly.”

25. “I don’t understand Donald’s bizarre fascination with dictators and strongmen who have no love for America.”

28. “I just wonder how anyone could be so wrong about who America’s real friends are. Because it matters. Because if you don’t know exactly who you’re dealing with, men like Putin will eat your lunch.”
29. “Every president faces hard choices every day, with imperfect information and conflicting imperatives. … Making the right call takes a cool head and respect for the facts. It takes a willingness to listen to other people’s points of view with a truly open mind. It also takes humility — knowing you don’t know everything — because if you’re convinced you’re always right, you’ll never ask yourself the hard questions.”

34. “Making Donald Trump our commander-in-chief would be a historic mistake.”

The most notable thing about Clinton’s foreign policy address is that the foreign policy she says she will carry out will be opposite of the one she presided over as Secretary of State. Instead of presiding over eroding alliances, weakness, chaos, and napping instead of meeting foreign leaders, the new, invigorated 70-year old Hillary will make our alliances stronger, we will be stronger and she’ll be ready for that 3am phone call.

Here is the irony. There is not a single one of these arguments that do not apply to Hillary Clinton. In many cases the critique is stronger because we have actually seen Hillary Clinton in action while we have (thankfully) no idea what Trump would do. For instance:

Hillary Clinton’s ideas were proven to be dangerously incoherent and utterly detached from reality. Thanks to Hillary Clinton a slowly developing civil society in Egypt was turned over to Islamists who were replaced by a military coup. The Islamists wanted to hang Hosni Mubarak. In turn, the military regime has had Islamist president Mohamed Morsi sentenced to death. Thanks to Clinton, a peaceful transition to civilian and civil rule in Egypt has been set back by generations. Hillary Clinton set off the refugee crisis by precipitating a bloody and intractable civil war in Syria. Hillary Clinton used here ambassador to Libya to run guns to al-Qaeda (now ISIS) fighters seeking to overthrow Syria’s Assad and lied, shameless and continuously, about the death of American citizens in Benghazi.

Hillary Clinton’s thin skin is more easily disguised than Trump’s but it is still there. The genesis of her private-email-server-slash-intelligence-flea-market is her desire to put her correspondence out of reach of FOIA requests and the federal records system.

Hillary Clinton used the State Department to enrich her family and friends and to rake in contributions to the Clinton family criminal empire.

Do you really want your children living in Hillary Clinton’s America? If you have sons you really need to think twice about it because Hillary, literally, actually, without exaggeration, thinks men and boys are without value.

Hillary Clinton’s State Department was instrumental in doing nothing to curtail North Korea from continuing nuclear weapons development and it was in the forefront of the plot to give Iran a nuclear weapon. Why Hillary thinks Saudi Arabia possessing a nuke… and they will be forced to do so as Iran is now nearly a nuclear power… is worse than North Korea or Iran doing the same remains a mystery.

Hillary Clinton praised Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as a “reformer.” Say what you will about Trump’s bromance with Putin, it is hard to say it is worse than this. And, needless to say, Trump was neither president nor Secretary of State when Russia set about dismembering Ukraine.

Do you really think making Hillary Clinton president would not be a historic or catastrophic mistake?

All anyone can really say in comparing the two is that Trump’s douchebaggery as president might very well exceed the existing record of Hillary Clinton. He could, theoretically, create more havoc and chaos and death and misery in the world in the future than Hillary already has. (Even the most jaded observer would have to agree that that is a high bar to clear.) But that is hardly an argument for voting for her.
