some political scientists say you can tell what a president is interested in by his cabinet appointments.

Strong appointees go to areas he doesn't want to deal with and wants to run smooth. Weak people go where the White House has interests because the White House can push them around.

Bush41 is a great example. He wanted to be known as the "education president." He picks really strong people at State and Defense and puts a basic non-entity at Education.

Obama leaves Gates at Defense (not sure how strong he is but firing him would cause a huge kerfluffle) and puts Hillary at State to get her out of Democrat politics. He puts sock puppets at EPA, Energy, Treasury, etc. The areas where he intends to make his big push.

..and these two envelopes (your 1 and 3) were given to the new president of a major university.

Regardless, your point is totally right on. But the story has been the consistent since Jan 20; Obama's foreign policy has been to try to prevent any disturbance coming up that would distract from his domestic policy pushes.

My suspicion is that he either doesn't care whether we surrender on the foreign front (or thinks that we will be spared because of his surrender) - so long as he can put in place a permanent socialist revolution in the U.S., like his model Chavez (or worse).

The more frustrated he gets that things aren't going his way entirely, the more he lashes out. This could get scary at some point soon if he keeps escalating.

and he's hunting ducks in Colorado.

Obama knew all the problems we had in Afghanistan when he ran for President and he told us he was uniquely qualified to handle them. Now all we get is "the dog ate my homework" excuses.

WAS focused on Afghanistan? First, for most of that time that area was relatively quiet, second, Afghanistan as we now clearly know, was mentioned only as a device with which to criticize the war in Iraq & Bush, the "good war" lie.
I would think the WH at some point will do it's imitation of adulthood, maybe even manhood, and stop hiding behind a previous president.
If not, and blunders combined with stupidity being their forte, this like much else will come back to haunt them. Or explode in their faces.

The O's popularity is slipping, the least this jellyfish could do is take some responsibility.
