my comment or I wasn't being very clear. I sometimes assume people follow my logic and know the current state of affairs when they don't. This may be such a case. It's my fault -- you know what they say about assumptions.

Let me try again. In my bio-mom's day, mothers were expected to work their way out of homes for unwed mothers if they expected to receive any type of help from the state. It just happened to be that in my case, my bio-mom made me available for adoption.

Since she was an impecunious, depressive, schizophrenic, alcoholic, I am quite thankful she did. It was the most selfless thing she could have done. I will forever be grateful to her and to God for giving me the opportunity to grow up in a middle-class home where I was loved and raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord. I most certainly was not advocating forced removal of children from their mothers. That's what Planned Parenthood does, only before the child is born.

As for the rest, I agree completely. I think a progressive assistance program to ENCOURAGE intact families is the way to go. Childcare, housing assistance, college tuition and anything else necessary to help people get on (or back on) their feet would be the most beneficial to all concerned. And it probably wouldn't cost much more than the programs we have now.

My goal is to end multi-generational gubmint dependency and disincentivize unwed motherhood. If you know of better ways to accomplish this without rewarding teen mothers with apartments and older mothers with bigger checks I'd like to hear it. And don't tell me it doesn't happen or it's not the norm.

Having been a mental health provider for DHR, a drug abuse counselor at a large urban public hospital and a case manager at two community mental health centers, I know from whence I speak. You may think we're "helping" poor women by keeping them addicted to the welfare teat, but in actuality, it's the worst kind of slavery anyone in this country can endure.

And many of them are so engaged in the system, just as their mothers were, they don't even know there is a life beyond constant interactions with gubmint bureaucracies, case workers and police; routinely feeling shameful, worthless and despondent; and seeing no future but the endless nurturing of indignant grievances and blame shifting in order to sustain the fiction that someone else is to blame for their plight.

Please don't try to tell me differently. I've sat in too many counseling sessions, too many drug rehab groups and too many jailhouse visiting rooms listening to the pleas and stories of these poor, tortured women. I can't stand to see them kept in this sorrowful predicament due to the perverse machinations of professional race-baiters and class-warfare agitators bent on inducing a false sense of aggrieved entitlement, just so a bunch of elitists can always count on their vote in the next election.

And it goes for white women as well. I served in one of the poorest counties in our poor southern state and an adult dependent's color matters not. What matters is self-respect, a feeling of accomplishment and the human dignity of being able to support oneself and one's children without an endless hand out.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. Your mother was a brave young woman.

First I know the statistics but I think the fatherlessness is a consequence of something else that could contributes towards the drugs, crime, etc. For a long time widows raised boys alone and there was no discussion how doomed their boys were. I know the hardship of single parent families but I think the opportunity arises for the boys to be become highly responsible for their age. I think women could highly reduce the crime rate re above by refusing to raise a thug.

I think what your saying is horrible, that government aid should be dependent upon a parent relinguishing parental rights or even seperating from their child.
If we are going to have gov aid though, it should not be dependent on a mother and child seperating, and I think assisting a family to remain intact should be way above on the list before a lot of other stuff the gov spends on, like all the help we give to juv and adult criminals, public schools, foreign aid/food, housing down payments, rural housing loans, tv converters lol, phone subsidies for the poor, birth control at health departments, gov science and art grants, financial aid for college, flood insurance, grants to college, just about everything. The family togetherness is so essential to everything else in society and children are safest with their mothers.

The breaking news banner at Fox News is stating that Van Jones has resigned. Twitter is abuzz about the racist, communist, cop-hating radical, Obama BFF has resigned. Will update with a diary once confirmation is available.

... but it seems to me that he's ultimately speaking in favor of the idea of giving white children positive male role models. While the way he talks about black-on-black homicide certainly weirded me out, he's certainly not villainizing white children; he's saying that some of them need help, which, it seems to me, is true.

I was watching about gangs on some channel last night and they were discussing how Tookie Williams creator of the Crips wrote a book about how bad the Crips were and received an award for his book and it was the black police Chief of that time who was incredulous that a man in prison with nothing left to lose "suddenly" sees the light of day and condemns what he has done. He didn't have that revelation while creating a death cult nor when killing hundreds in the name of "turf" no its when is going to be put to death and has nothing. That Chief was also sickened that it was an award that Martin Luther King had received for doing something when EVERYTHING was on the line.

Liberal PC'ism is killing inner city children daily and because there is a VOTE involved in continuing the slaughter nothing is done. Whites nor anyone else can be blamed for this American SHAME only the individual adults in those communities have themselves to blame and people like Van Jones better recognize that there is a better way a Conservative way an ADULT way to handle these issue's. It will only be when they accept responsibility and stop blaming everyone else that their lives will TRULY change!

is the main reason so many black children end up in prison, on drugs, out of school, unemployed and dead at an early age.

And they are fatherless, for the most part, because the liberal welfare system rewards illigitimacy. Why such a misguided ploicy? It's simple: Governemt dependents = loyal liberal Democrats.

And before anyone accuses me of being racist, let's look at the way it was handled in the 50's for any race:

I was born in a home for unwed mothers. (That's right, I'm a true bastard, LOL!)Anyway, my mother was expected to stay there (without benefit of male companionship) if she expected to get any state sponsored help. In my case, I was soon placed in foster care and became available for adoption. She left the home sadder, but wiser.

Such a system DISCOURAGES teen moms from having children out of wedlock. And guess what? The illigitimacy, murder, drug abuse and drop out rates for blacks at the time were either declining, roughly equal to or LESS THAN that of whites. (see Thomas Sowell's, "Vision of the Annointed")

Indeed, this is not just a black problem . Unbelievably, not only are 70% of black children illigitimate now, approximately 47% of Hispanic and 30% of white children are as well. Forget about immigration. Forget about terrorism. Forget about debt. When enough children are born to single mothers living at gubmint expense, any pretext of a free society characterized by personal responsibility and independent moral action will be long gone.

This is exactly how we got the Obomination who appointed such an obscene racist as Van Jones.
