It could remind you of minstrel show make up if you see colors reversed. Minstrel shows had *white* guys in *black* make up. Or at least they did in the US.

everyone I sent this poster to (even the apolitical) had a visceral reaction. No one needed it to be explained.
What makes this poster effective is that in a Bizarro World way it shows Obama WITHOUT his make-up.

I think it can be effective with a certain group of younger people and have an effect that resonates with others and that its potential negatives are quite small.

at least for a stage. In the end, all enemies of the traditonal Republic embrace a form of deconstructionism. Obama, the Left and The Joker all start from that vantage point.

The joker is an anarchist or proponent of chaos not socialism. Maybe with a different title like “Why so socialist?” playing off the “Why so serious?” tag line.

the problem is, that’s what out there. I agree other possibilities exist-I’d prefer Pinocchio with ears myself, but the poster is what it is. The real problem; no matter what cartoon, poster, pictures, photoshops our side comes up with, THEY make a racial issue out of it. The next four years will be filled with calling us racist, no matter what we say or do. They used race to get him elected, they are using race to protect him, and they will use race to get his policies passed.

I hope he fails…

Magazine cover after magazine cover have portrayed Obama in ways that ranged from simply flattering to god-like (including airbrushed halos, Superman costumes, and skin color modifications). This poster portrays The One in a very ugly fashion associated with a deranged character. While the far lefties jump up and down and claim it’s racist, the folks in the middle who were duped by him in 2008 are already having their image of Obama tained by his policies. This is one of the first, of hopefully many, less flattering images of him that will start to permeate their psyche and leave them feeling less adoration and more human emotions towards him. All part of continuing the change in image from political moderate messiah to dangerous statist radical than can only help us in ’10 and ’12.

not convinced the joker as socialist is an effective poster

and I doubt it would be any better as nihilist

actually your testimony makes my point re how lame a poster it is

good art doesnt need extensive explanations or corrections

they are easily understood my most upon seeing it

you even admit the joker is not a socialist, hence…

we can do better

Although it may be obscure to you it isn’t to the millions who follow pop-culture.

As far as the minstrel part….well minstrels wore blackface…Clowns wear whiteface.

Was the Joker a socialist…no but he was a nihilist…and I think those two are symbiotic to a certain extent.
